The band released their Swedish Grammi-winning debut album "Supershitty to the Max!" in 1996. Just before a tour opening for Kiss, the band recruited keyboardist and percussionist Anders Lindström (also known as Boba Fett or Boba) on a part-time basis; he would become a full-time member in 1999. After the album "Payin' the Dues" in 1998, Dregen left the band to return to Backyard Babies full-time, and Mattias Hellberg and Danne Andersson were recruited to complete the band's touring responsibilities. After the release of "Grande Rock", which featured additional guitar playing from both Lindström and Hellberg, Robert Dahlqvist was hired as a full-time lead guitarist in 1999. With the lineup now solidified, the band released three more studio albums and a cover album, with many EPs and limited-edition releases as well. The Hellacopters disbanded amicably in 2008 so the members could move on to other projects. Eight years later, the band reassembled in 2016, initially for an exclusive performance at Sweden Rock Festival to celebrate the 20-year anniversary of their award-winning debut album "Supershitty to the Max!".
In October 2021, the band announced that they had signed with the record label Nuclear Blast to release a new album in the spring of 2022. The album, "Eyes of Oblivion", was released on April 1, 2022.

Born sucking on a silver spoon
Trying hard for the best
You don't come close but I can stand the test
Here's a hint here's a clue
I'm the wolf in the movie 'bout you
So pull a knife but I stand on it's edge
I'm the allegiance the one that you pledge
You want to rise to the occation
But there's nothing to prove
You'll be two steps back
While I'm on the move
And it makes you feel
Envious - You can try but you won't nail it down
Envious - You turn it up but it don't make no sound
Envious - It's good looking at the first glance
But you' re so envious - And you don't stand a chance
You got the axe but I got the licks
I've got the drugs but baby you've got the ticks
You're a word not worthy a mention
I'm the teacher and you've got detention
You want to rise to the occation
But there's nothing to prove
You'll be two steps back
While I'm on the move
And it makes you feel
Envious - You can try but you won't nail it down
Envious - You turn it up but it don't make no sound
Envious - It's good looking at the first glance
But you' re so envious - And you don't stand a chance
You pale in comparison
But what can you do
I admit it I look better beside you
You will cry as I laugh
You're a boy and l'm a man a half
You'll always be the ugly nothing and I the sweet real
I feel no pity but I know how you feel
You want to rise to the occation
But there's nothing to prove
You'll be two steps back
While I'm on the move
And it makes you feel
Envious - You can try but you won't nail it down
Envious - You turn it up but it don't make no sound
Envious - It's good looking at the first glance
But you' re so envious - And you don't stand a chance
The Hellacopters' song "Envious" portrays a sense of superiority and confidence through the lyrics. The song talks about someone who was born with advantages, but the singer isn't intimidated, claiming to be superior to them. The opening line, "Out of time out of tune", refers to their inability to keep up with the singer. The one who is envious shares the same aspirations as the singer, but they are not good enough to achieve them. The singer isn't affected by their attempts to compete with him, and they make him feel good about himself.
The lyrics are bold and straightforward, with a great deal of the language being descriptive of the determination and confidence the lead singer has. They use lots of metaphors and similes, comparing themselves to the envy that the other person feels. The song's energy is driven by the increase in tempo and the consistent, driving guitar patterns that permeate the song. The chorus is not only catchy but also one that lingers in the listener's mind.
