The Hermans are a high-energy, loud, musical, rock-punk-jam category-defying band that delivers a high-energy performance every time they take the stage. Their sound, style, and point-of-view is reminiscent of The Pixies, Dinosaur Jr., and Nirvana with jazz influences throughout. The Hermans pride themselves on setting their music apart from that of other bands. The current "rock and roll" scene is saturated with indie rock bands and other various gimmick/image-based music. They believe music should always come before image, which is definitely proven in their live performance and recordings.
The current Hermans lineup has been around Missoula, Montana since 2004 and would have toured sooner but their drummer (like that of any good rock band) fell victim to a serious accident (table saw) and nearly lost his hand. The doctors gave him a recovery time of over six months but The Hermans played their highly anticipated comeback show within a month and a half. They then proceeded to tour the Pac-Northwest in January 2007. In addition, The Hermans have played over 100 shows state-wide and across the nation since their birth.
During the first four years of existence, singer Dave Jones and drummer Derk Schmidt kept a journal of the band, which has been published. The Hermans: Stalking America, published by Running Press out of Philadelphia, was released in bookstores October, 2007. With a forward by Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam, it is the running, living journal of a working rock band from Anytown, USA. In support of the book, The Hermans toured to the East coast in June 07, including a stop in New York City for Book Expo America and a show at the famous Don Hill’s club, plus stops in 6 other cities. In July of 2007, The Hermans added guitarist Chris "The Count" Knudsen to their lineup. The Count is an established touring musician as well as the bassist for the Missoula-based International Playboys. Count plays rhythm and lead guitar and toured with The Hermans in October 2007 to promote the release of their book. This tour was comprised of two weeks down the west coast and back, including stops at radio stations and Barnes & Noble bookstores with live in-store performances and book signings, followed by rock and roll shows at night in each city.

The bottle stands forlorn a symbol of the dawn
No milk today it seems a common sight
But people passing by don't know the reason why
How could they know just what this message means
The end of all my hopes the end of all my dreams
How could they know a palace there had been
No milk today it wasn't always so
The company was gay we turn'd night into day
But all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in a mean street back of town
Becomes a shrine when I think of you only
Just two-up, two-down
No milk today it wasn't always so
The company was gay we turn'd night into day
As music played the faster did we dance
We felt it both at once the start of our romance
How could they know just what this message means
The end of all my hopes the end of all my dreams
How could they know a palace there had been
Behind the door where my love reigned as queen
No milk today my love is gone away
The bottle stands forlorn a symbol of the dawn
But all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in a mean street back of town
Becomes a shrine when I think of you only
Just two-up, two-down
No milk today my love is gone away
The bottle stands forlorn a symbol of the dawn
No milk today it seems a common sight
But people passing by don't know the reason why
How could they know just what this message means
The end of all my hopes the end of all my dreams
How could they know a palace there had been
Behind the door where my love reigned as queen
No milk today it wasn't always so
The company was gay we turn'd night into day
But all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in a mean street back of town
All that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in a mean street back of town
But all that's left is a place dark and lonely
A terraced house in a mean street back of town
The Herman's song "No Milk Today" speaks of the singer's heartbreak and despair after the departure of his loved one. The lyrics suggest that the couple used to be very happy, enjoying life and love, but now everything is bleak and lonely. The image of the forlorn milk bottle represents his loneliness and the emptiness of his life. As he encounters people passing by, he realizes that they don't understand the depth of his loss, and how their mundane sight of seeing missed milk deliveries can mean so much more to him.
The singer reflects on the past, reminiscing about the happy times they shared, dancing and enjoying each other's company. He can't help but wonder how nobody could understand the love they shared and the palace that had been behind the closed doors where his love reigned as queen. The mention of a "terraced house in a mean street back of town" implies that he has lost everything that he once held close to his heart and that his life is now confined to a bleak existence. The end of the song further emphasizes his loneliness and repeats the phrase, "a terraced house in a mean street back of town," implying that it is now the only reminder of his once happy life.
