I have a lot of experience with the Hum. The best description is - diesel engine idling in distance or maybe better - a big fan in distance.
It is not a sound, at least, not in the spectrum we can hear. So, it is more like a vibration that only few people can feel.
It is not internal because few people can feel the same thing at the same time and place.
It is everywhere in the air around us, even outside. People report that it is only inside because outside there are other sounds that cover the Hum.
People also report that it starts when they put their had on a pillow. That is quite normal because the vibration can be felt better when we are at peace.
The air outside vibrates, it vibrate walls and windows and the vibration probably amplifies on that shallow and big plain surfaces.
I do want not say that neighbour's ceiling fan could not sometimes produce similar effects. But, that is another problem.
The worst scenario is frantically trying to find the source or to accuse the neighbours.
The source of the Hum can not be found (we do not have senses or tools to measure it).
So, what to do? If you can accept that some vibration exists and that it would eventually even pass - that's nice. It could pass with weather change, temperature change or maybe without a observable reason. Air plugs or similar devices are of no much help because we do not cope with a sound. Attitude towards the vibration could be useful.
Maybe even some kind of mindfulness meditation could help. Like this: Notice not the vibration but your reaction to it.
You could be lucky if you will be able to keep the vibration mostly out of your focus/attention.
If that does not help, one shortcut is to cover that vibration with another vibration (some music, white noise ...). I do not like that approach because even that sound could start to be annoying, especially in the night.
If you start loosing your mind, think seriously about moving far away from that place. Otherwise, bad state of the mind would just amplify negative effects. From my experience, I felt the Hum more annoying when I was in some stressful period. The nerves were probably more sensitive at those times.
We can consider the situation in a spiritual way. Maybe the Universe is sending us a signal to move somewhere else.
Anyway, we can not see the whole light spectrum, we can not feel or hear all the frequencies. Who knows what else we can not notice because we do not have senses or sense are not developed. So, next time when someone tells you that he or she can communicate with spirits do not think it is impossible. Maybe she or he can really do that.

I first heard "the hum" around 4 years ago. It was a low rumbling sound I heard from my bedroom. I opened my window to find out if it was coming from outside and that made it get quieter. Thats when I looked it up online and learned about the hum. It lasted for about 2 weeks, always starting at night around 10pm to 12am and ending between 2am and 4am. I heard it every night for those two weeks, and then it just stopped. The weird part about it is that a few weeks after it stopped I was sitting at my computer and playing a game when suddenly all sound cut out and my ears felt like they had closed up. It only lasted about a second or two but afterward my ears were ringing. It was a high frequency noise, which is typical tinnitus. That sound never went away and I still hear it right now, 4 years later. I have no idea if the two are related but the tinnitus I have now is an entirely different sound than the hum I heard for that brief period of 2 weeks. I just wish I knew why my tinnitus started because it literally came out of nowhere. One moment I had no tinnitus and 3 seconds later I had it, and it will probably stay with me forever.

Same happened to me regarding tinnitus. Ive had tinnitus starting in 2007 then it gradually went away over the years. (Started at 10/10 and eventually ended up at 1\10 in 2010/2011) in the end i only heard it when i was alone in bed with no external sounds. Then suddenly one day in 2018 i woke up with after having fallen asleep with my in ear headphones on listening to Aphex Twin (not very loud mind you) and the tinnitus had returned. Now at a diffrent frequency, and much louder. I have since been ableto work it down to a manageble level (4-5-6/10 dependingon diffrent circumstances). On top of that I get tinnitus "jolts" or "spikes" around 10-20 times a day. This is a very loud sound in various tones/frequencies much louder than the baseline tinnitus, that lasts anywhere fro. 5 to 30 seconds. I have also developed hyperacusis in connection with the second wave of tinnitus. I am convinced tinnitus is connected to hyperstimulation/agitation of the central nervous system, and i am positive thatthr CNS can be affected by external circumstances, ie EMF and "dirty" electricity. On top of that diet, excercise, stress and anxiety factor as major catalysts aswell. Thank you for letting me rant :-)

Dr. Steve Gundry and others describe the cause of tinnitis as "brain fire", or inflammation of brain tissues, which can possibly be gotten under control with a battery of several anti-inflammatories, the most commonly used is turmeric or curcumin and the extract. Others will be Boswellia (Frankencince) but the others I dont recall. Those help me keep shoulder pain and joint arthritis under control. When I can afford the other stuff I'll get it too and hope it will stop the tinnitis.

I live in okc and I hear it almost every night starting around 2-3am. It starts and stops abruptly every 30 seconds and lasts about 2 hours. It was unnoticed by my family and didn't bother them. One night, we were all up late during a blackout. They finally heard it. I was validated and stopped feeling like I was going crazy. I never realized how many other people hear it.

I also think that some type of machinery is causing it, but it's the same volume and intervals no matter where I am in a 100 mile radius of OKC. "Like a diesel engine idling off in the distance" are the exact words I used to describe what I was hearing back in the mid/late 90s. Just this constant, throbbing hum that sounded very indistinct and distant, yet was still driving me absolutely bonkers on a day to day basis. It was exactly how these other people describe it, it would fade or be gone during the day but at night it was pure hell. Even putting in earplugs and a pillow over my head wouldn't block it out entirely. I didn't have the internet back then, and I thought it was only me, or something wrong with me, because my husband said he didn't hear it. We lived near some power lines and I thought maybe it was some kind of electric hum from them, but then why would it not be as evident in the daytime? The lines would crackle if there was moisture in the air, but I knew what that was and could tell where it was coming from.

I think we do a great disservice when we immediately equate subjective human phenomena with mental illness, using words like 'delusion' and 'hallucination' instead of focusing on perception. The Hum sounds to me like a shared human experience and psychosomatic phenomenon, perhaps the long-forgotten remains of an ancient instinct or remaining inner ear bone from a human ancestor that only survives in a small percentage of the population.

That being said, you did an amazing job balancing viewpoints and the quality of your videos is incredible. Massive respect.

Edit: I should have used the words "subjective" or "internal" instead of "psychosomatic." I'm agreeing with NightDoc's point learned from the interview at the end of the video, and trying to make a point about how unfair it is that Hum hearers are written off as "mentally ill" due to social stigma. No disagreement here.

as soon as the pieces started coming together my immediate thought was "could this be some kind of neurological thing?", since i've had tinnitus and visual snow (essentially the closest thing to a visual equivalent of tinnitus, it's essentially like a filter of static all over your vision that's easier to see over darker areas and different people have different intensities of it) my entire life, and despite the two apparently being linked (it's relatively common for people who have visual snow to also have tinnitus), i've only recently learned about visual snow existing and for the longest time just thought it was how everyone's vision was, so i think it's easier to gloss over relatively benign neurological phenomena than most people would think. i'm glad it seems like everyone was on the same page about it, haha.

@NightDocs there hasn't been a huge amount of research into it, presumably because most people who have it also just figure it's normal at first, but there has been some brain imaging research that does show some evidence that it's neurological in nature and is probably caused by dysfunction in the visual association cortex.

At times those standard conspiracy theories and weird explanations are more valid than the traditionally excepted explanations. Rationality is commonly nothing more than a disguise for convince. Scientific exploration has become perverse with its current desire to debunk. Human arrogance leads us to believe that our limited and adolescent comprehension of our own reality must gate keep the answers to the paranormal. Even this conclusion is yet of itself inconclusive. It’s just a convenient theory that science will easily be able to digest. Once they do any other future audio anomalies will quickly be attributed to tinnitus regardless of the individual circumstances. We already see this with sleep paralysis. Even if tinnitus does prove to be the culprit we as a society still chose to ignore the obvious and rapid escalation of reported cases. The analytics are clear, there is an modern environmental factor escalating the phenomenon. Awareness and ability to report doesn’t parallel the massive number of new tinnitus sufferers. So agin even if this works Hum is a consequence of tinnitus it’s still not solved as we don’t really comprehend what definitively causes “traditional” tinnitus. But the label is pacifier that’s sure to soothe those self described rational thinkers, skeptics, or “scientists”.

My first thought was “this is definitely a bunch of people with tinnitus that are completely oblivious to it and perhaps have overactive imaginations and feel the need to conspiracize everything.” I have had tinnitus my whole life and usually, I’m hearing multiple high frequencies at once, overlapping each other. Other times, it’s more like a low frequency “rumbling” sound. In complete silence, it’s incredibly loud, so it makes sense why someone brought down to a mine would feel like it’s just clearer and louder: Other times, I get so used to it that I never really notice it’s there until I start paying attention.

I am a “hearer” and the question I have regarding tinnitus is - why don’t most sufferers never hear the sound when they are outside? It doesn’t matter how quite it is, if I am not in some sort of “structure” (such as my house or car) the noise disappears completely. Doesn’t sound like tinnitus to me, but then again I am no scientist. Also, why don’t I hear it during the day? The background noise levels in my house are the same at night and day, as I live in a rural area. Thoughts?

It is the simplest question and amswer. You can not hear the source sound. There is a very hard vibration ín the soil, ground. And our houses are resonating with it. It is infra sound, not audiable, but the materials of our houses is ín audiable frequentie, beat a brick, you Will hear it. And the áll other materials Will mix and we get this hum. Most if not all of us have some form of tinnitus, it’s just very low and is subconsciously ignored in the same way that we ignore blinking or breathing. But, if you pay attention to your hearing you will “hear” something, even in complete silence.

It is not that. Sometimes you hear the hum turned off like someone pushed the off button. Than it goes on again and has a slighty different frequancy. It is not a ear thing either. You can not but a headphone on because it penetrates your body. Some houses make it sound worse by how it s build.

for real. i also feel like some people are better at "tuning it out" and some people cannot help but pay attention to their tinnitus, even if it is not particularly bad or "loud". i'm one of those people that has trouble ignoring it so i always have music, or youtube (lol), or even the fan on full blast 24/7.
anyways, everyone, please wear hearing protection in loud environments. i won't turn my comment in to a PSA but trust me and just do it. if you go to a lot of concerts or thing of that sort invest in good ear plugs and it will even enhance the experience.

I'm just minutes in and one of the things that comes to mind is that this sounds like a low frequency version of the tinnitus I deal with after my time in the Army. I have 3 specific tones I hear that are higher frequency, but really become more obvious at night when things are more quiet. I wonder if there is a low frequency version of tinnitus that people experience? The map of people reporting the hum looks like it is around population centers, so if a certain percentage of people have some variation of tinnitus, it would make sense that the more people in an area the higher a chance there would be sufferers of the hearing issue...

I’m curious to see how many suffer from both high frequency tinnitus and also the low frequency… if that’s even a possibility or if any claims have been made to experience both. I can imagine it’s possible. I have pretty bad tinnitus.. have been suffering with it for about 8 yrs now. I was always told that there are some treatments that can help but never a cure. Mine seems to get worse by the year. Even to the point to where Music sounds different. Certain high pitched notes (especially on the piano) always sound out of tune or off key for me. Being that I am a piano player, this is heartbreaking for me. I can’t stand night time either. Especially considering I live out in the woods in AL where the crickets chirps are never ending. God forbid a siren blares. I’ll hear it for days. Drives me insane!!!

The tinnitus theory is interesting to me. Because while watching this, I pulled up a video to find out what 120hz sounds like, out of curiosity. And it actually triggered my tinnitus. They were doing a bit of a duet. Which is weird. But also got me wondering if it might be something similar.

I’ve always heard a low rumbling sound when it got quiet but I never heard it very strongly it was always barely within my range of hearing and I could only hear it when I was away from all other sounds and it always got stronger below ground I don’t know if that’s because it was quieter or because it has something to do with the ground.

It is coming from the ground as a hard vibration. What we can hear it is the resonation of our houses. It is the reason while you can not or only lowered hear it outdoor. BUT, this vibration can come from a simple physical vibration, but it can also come from a strong infrasonic sound that causes vibration, vibration=sound, and sound=vibration. @Zacorin I live in a suburban area so I don't get much quiet. But earlier this year I was in treatment about 2 hours west of where I live. Very rural area. I was out there for a month. That was the closest to quiet naturally I've gotten. Only sounds were the wind and the creek that ran by the house.

Now, I don't hear the hum. But I certainly believe it's real. Well, what they both proposed in the video. But it's interesting that some people hear it and some don't. Just fascinating all around.

Very nice production! I’ve always thought this is muscle vibrations in the middle ear. I can trigger this by will by tensing a muscle in the ear. Perhaps it is the one acting as a limiter for the little bones in the middle ear. I guess just like some can wiggle their ears or nostrils I can “wiggle” this muscle. To me it sounds like a big Diesel engine is similar.

In my opinion, most of the cases may be unattended tinnitus. I’ve heard some weird humming with one ear just to discover it was an inflammation problem. God knows for how long I had that without noticing, but at the end of the day, it’s gotten better and that weird sound is history for me.

I live in the Chicagoland area. I heard this sound around 3am this morning. I live very close to train tracks and a long , busy during the day. Naturally, I initially thought it was an extremely loud semi truck speeding down the road, until I noticed the sound didn’t slow down at all. Then I thought it was a freight train. But there was no way. I even thought it was an alarm signaling danger. The sound was extremely loud, constant, low-pitch but high-pitch, far away but nearby. I was terrified. It made me feel scared, depressed, and I could not sleep. I was trying to pinpoint it cause it was clearly coming from outside. I was thinking there’s no way I’m the only one that can hear this. have friends that live nearby and they have heard it too. Eventually it started to fade and it took a long time to fade. My boyfriend heard it too. Immediately, I Googled it and that’s when I discovered that this sound has a name. I didn’t know it’s so mysterious though. I can definitely say there is no way this is tinnitus. I know what tinnitus sounds like and only you can hear it. This hum sound is clearly coming from outdoors and there’s no way to pinpoint it’s location.

If it can be herd and felt it should be able to be recorded, ether via sound recording equipment or vibration monitors [seismometer] and you can actually get vibration monitor equipment designed for home monitoring of earthquake style vibrations that can record foot steps a mile away. So if I heard such a sound I would be driven to some how record it ether via sound or vibration.

You all know how a parabolic dish type mic can record sound from a distance. With this in mind you can research and design a dish that can "hear" ELF extreme low frequency sound and vibrations. Such a sound receptor can be build to collect sound in the low frequency range.

I would construct one of these and attempt to focus it until I found the position just right to pickup these sounds. For the seismometer for ground vibrations you affix this to a cement foundation that is firmly anchored to the ground, simple as that. Then any vibrations in the ground no matter how small can and will be recorded and graphed on a computer.

You can build flat panel speakers with a device designed to do exactly that and medium to large sections of high density foam boards are perfect, this is the pink color stuff at the hardware store. Get some of this foam and get a cell phone with a vibration meter app installed hang this up on a stand via fishing line so it can hang and be rotated 360 degrees. See if you can adjust this sound receptor so the vibration meter picks up the low frequency sound you are hearing.

Sometimes I hear a strange hum in complete silence. There is the phrase "deafening silence", and it's a real thing, at least for me. I'm still young. I'm 29, and despite an occasional ringing in my ears, my hearing's pretty good. When I'm in a quiet setting, I don't hear anything, as there may be background noises around me. But when there is a total and absolute absence of all sound (no background sounds like cars on the street, quiet chatter downstairs, or white noise like a fan), I hear a strange ringing in my ears. It's been a while since I last heard it, but I think the frequency I hear it at is really high pitched, like 3,760 hz. Does anyone else hear ringing or humming in complete silence? It's so weird that our inner ear generates sound on its own lol.

That’s probably your own body. We can’t hear it normally since it’s so quiet and ever since our ears developed in the womb we learned to tune it out, same as the taste of our own mouth.

There’s that one room that’s the quietest room in the world. Can’t remember where it is, but it’s completely soundproofed. The longest someone ever could stand inside it was around 35 minutes. Complete sensory loss is torture, and our senses desperately reach out for something, ANYTHING, to hear. People who have been in that room talk about how they started hearing their heartbeat first, then even the blood pumping and shooting around their bodies. It’s horrifying.

Interesting. I started suffering tinnitus at least 30 years ago. At least a few weeks before I started noticing it, I had read an article by-- of all people-- William Shatner, describing his own struggles with tinnitus and the impact it had on his life-- so I already knew the worst, and what to expect. I'm lucky, though, in that mine has never been so bad that I had to sleep with a white-noise machine or anything like that. Mine sounds more like a hiss than a ringing... ultimately, it's like I'm hearing the world on old analogue tape, and unless I'm specifically thinking about it--- like now, ughh--- I usually don't even notice it.

Outside auditory sounds exist as well, a good example is that that some people can get very disturbed by wind turbines close to their vicinity to the point that they have to move.
In this case, the reports of deaf people reporting the hum is very telling, it's not generated from anything outside.

Yeah if you ever went into industrial size Electric Plants, you have heard that hum. If you network the areas of sound it becomes one big sound. When I heard it, the first thing I did was eliminate the idea that it was my ears by measuring it with a guitar tuner. The tuner lead me to a running truck and train just sitting there. I began to find them all over the place like that too. There were also people in the area that were experimenting with microwaves. Anything that is electric generates a hum sound. Use a light up guitar tuner and see the direction the sound is coming from. I also found a low frequency sound bug deterrent system that is designed to have giant speakers in your yard. The shaking feeling runs bugs and animals away. Tinnitus is a possibility too.

Same happened to me regarding tinnitus. Ive had tinnitus starting in 2007 then it gradually went away over the years. (Started at 10/10 and eventually ended up at 1\10 in 2010/2011) in the end i only heard it when i was alone in bed with no external sounds. Then suddenly one day in 2018 i woke up with after having fallen asleep with my in-ear headphones on listening to Aphex Twin (not very loud mind you) and the tinnitus had returned. Now at a diffrent frequency, and much louder. I have since been able to work it down to a manageble level (4-5-6/10 depending on diffrent circumstances). On top of that I get tinnitus "jolts" or "spikes" around 10-20 times a day. This is a very loud sound in various tones/frequencies much louder than the baseline tinnitus, that lasts anywhere from 5 to 30 seconds. I have also developed hyperacusis in connection with the second wave of tinnitus. I am convinced tinnitus is connected to hyperstimulation/agitation of the central nervous system, and i am positive thatthr CNS can be affected by external circumstances, ie EMF and "dirty" electricity. On top of that diet, excercise, stress and anxiety factor as major catalysts aswell. Thank you for letting me rant :-)

The strange thing is, if you have a sound source, say a TV or stereo for instance, you can turn your head/ears away from it & the volume gets lower. Not with the hum. I can put high quality earplugs in & nothing changes. It's like the sound permeates your head but not exactly though the ear canal. Hard to explain. Others around me hear it too & we don't actually hear it start rather notice it after say nauseum or agitation. Although, I'm sometimes aware of when it stops due to instant relief from pain.

i believe deaf people can recognize the hum, as opposed to hearing it, because its not really something that you hear, its more something that you feel. i can literally feel the vibration inside my ear and it hurts my ear drums, has given me head aches, made me dizzy, and has driven me to tears on more than one occasion.

I've only noticed it recently, it sounds like an appliance is left on and is going wonky and similar to someone running their finger around crystal or blowing across the top of a bottle of water. Also like an annoying gnat all those sounds mixed in. A bit like that anyway. The sound fluctuates. I just researched that low frequency sounds are targeted at clouds to make it rain. The weather has been awful here in London, especially the past week. Another rainy and gloomy day today. I have heard a strange sound since last weekend in the early hours, every night. I initially turned off all my electrics and the water and could still hear it so thought it was coming from a neighbours property. So annoying, I discovered that it is louder outside, I caught the sound on my phone. Poor animals having to hear that outside so loud. I put earplugs in and listened to my tinnitus instead as that was more preferable. I also put on a youtube video called Rumble Works - Ambient Low Frequency Noisescape for Ten Hours in the background to help counteract it. I live near the towers in the danger zone on top of a hill.

Except there are many different localized recordings from all over the world of the hum, this anything but "solved". Read your own comments and those from other "hum" min documentaries - people also report that noise cancelling head phones are effective, as they are in my case. Cutting power to everything in the house with the circuit breaker almost eliminates it, but not completely. It's amplified by turning the central fan on. It's barely audible outside, etc, but more so inside, and only with the central fan on. It's accompanied by other overtones and acoustic pressure popping like you'd get if there was random tapping on the aluminum air duct work - very odd.

Tinnitus is a cruel mistress. I've had it since I was a teen, or maybe earlier, and am quite used to it, but it can get a bit annoying sometimes.
The hum definitely sounds like a "low freq" tinnitus.

Overall you can live with tinnitus quite OK, you just need to accept it as a constant background noise and your brain will filter it out most of the time.

I wonder what are all the specific but temporary physiological changes that occur in people that spend more than an hour or two air traveling. It may be interesting to see what the differences are between say pilots or stewardesses and people who have not flown for at least a year, any consistent differences can lead to new clues and avenues of investigation. It seems that whatever it is, it affects the nervous system either directly or by proxy, and specifically a part responsible for sound perception.

Im hearing it right now. I thought it was some kind of industrial sound or pipe vibrations or something that i was able to hear on quiet nights. It's like a low frequency distant intermittent sound. Sometimes can be a little annoying and lowder but i dont hear it everywhere in the house, just in my bedroom and feels like it's coming from outside. I'm hearing this right now here in Ha Long Bay Vietnam. It is 9:25pm 6/18/22. I've been hearing this for the whole last month. Even the dogs are going ape sh!t. I live on top of a 30 story high rise. As I look out over the city lights, I can see nothing to explain this. No big ships coming in, No large vehicles on the highway. It's unseen but very real. I look up at the misty sky and I can see a few stars. So there is no giant star ship hovering above, even though that's what it sounds like. I feel no vibrations, in fact when I go back inside, it's quiet. So it's something in the air. I didn't randomly find this video. I came here searching for answers. Anyone else have any ideas?

So I used to hear a hum, louder when I was young. I thought it was transformers, but Ive also heard it in rural areas. My guess is that its an evolutionary holdover from being hunters, in relative silence our brain gives us an internal baseline so we can pick up on smaller sounds and as modern humans we just dont really use it.

I'm glad I have an answer. Kinda. I've heard this since I was in the single digits and complained but my parents didn't hear it. It was mainly at night. I explained it like a truck sitting outside my window. So one day my parents took me to a truck while it idled. That was it!! They said it might be me hearing frequencies and gave me a fan to cover it up because it was affecting my sleep. I still sleep with one to keep it slightly covered. Despite that I can tell people when a garbage truck is coming because it has a frequency.
Now I have really bad tinnitus and the idles now sometimes sound like thunder or BOOOM (minus the rumble) that no one else hears. Mind you that when I first heard the boom this year it was a cold day in November. And multiple people that live in my building did and didn't hear it.
Ever since that started I got migraines and my hearing got fucked. Now I constantly hear the hum in my bedroom at night like when I was a child. No other room. And this room faces the direct opposite of my childhood bedroom and about 5 miles away.

I've been to the neurologist. We did a lot of tests. I have worse tinnitus than I thought lol but I had just had a really bad brain impact a few months before that.

I have such bad tinnitus at such a high pitch that gets so bad, it’ll give me headaches at times. It’s the worst at night when it’ll get so loud in at least one ear it sounds like there’s actually a loud high pitched humming noise. So yeah I have no reason to believe that these people aren’t experiencing the same thing just at a lower frequency. It’s gotten worse for me as I’ve gotten older with hearing damage, but I’ve also never had an ear infection- it runs in my family. My papa used to say when it gets loud in one ear, it means someone’s talking about you lol. I believe it must be a combination of genetics and maybe where you have been, maybe if you have hearing damage and what kind, and neuropathways. For example I live in the Oregon mountains near the coast, and when I’m in lower altitudes (say, East of the Rockys) it gets worse. Maybe some people only believe they hear it but I doubt the majority of people who hear the hum have some sort of mass hysteria. It’s believable. It must be a shared set of genetics with different mutations, much like blue and green eyes are.

So... I grew up in Taos, NM. The Taos Hum has been attributed to a lot of things. Stuff as far out as UFO's, underground government projects, crystal frequencies to stuff as begin as tinnitus, altitude sickness, or just an urban legend that was created by town officials to increase tourism. I lived there most of my life and can honestly say I never heard it myself, and I am not sure where you got the bit about the gorge being a hot spot. From what I understand, the hum can best be heard from the center of town (hidden speakers?) or along Blueberry Hill.

I just moved into a small suburban town recently in eastern Penna. I wake up between two and three in the morning and sit on my porch to relax. I hear a hum that sounds like an airplane idling but there is no airport around. There are several manufacturing companies but they should be closed at that time. Now I am hearing it during the day too but didn't hear it in the mountains last weekend. I suffer from tinnitus that began after working on the flight line when I was in the Air Force. The hum is deeper and lower tones I hear in my new community. I just want to sleep comfortably through the night. I have an otolaryngology appointment next month. Glad to know I am not the only one with this condition.

My grandma used to hear the hum, everyone said they never heard what she was talking about. But she swore she heard the hum. Anyway, I think the Rio Grande Bridge had a pop-up stand where people sold weed. It was dope asf. Cool spot, cool spot. Real scary when ya look down from the bridge tbh, and im glad to see Taos get some coverage. Its a dope little spot thats real quiet and real cool. If your ever up there, look for a place called "Ortegas jerky" best fuckin jerky you'll try ever. Get the hatch and pepper flavor and I promise you'll love it

As I lay down for the night with all mobile devices, tv turned off I can hear a hum that fluctuate down then up again as if a device was working on a load. With a background in communication I started to eliminate power strips and such. Sleeping on my back with pillows against each ear. After some time I came to the conclusion that I was actually hearing my body, a machine, functioning. It may be circulation or digestive but definitely internal.

Crazy idea but could it be that we’re hearing the frequencies of our own electromagnetics inside of our bodies and that’s the reason that no matter where we are we can hear it? It could just be because our bodies have electromagnetic in us so maybe some people are just better at hearing that. Kind of like how we see those weird things in our eyes when we close them that look like pieces of string and that was a mystery until very little time ago when they discovered it was our actualizing veins in our and they discovered that it was seeing ourselves so maybe this is just us hearing ourselves. Oh wait you guys are talking about this now. lol we both came to the same conclusion. Bravo! 👏

Noticed this today, was louder in the house or in a car with the engine off....even heard it 60 miles from home. Planes hun about 105Hz, this was about 82Hz. I used a spectrum analyzer app that showed it very clearly

I hope some day ppl will also seriously look into ASMR and why some ppl get reactions to it or not. Even as a kid I found simple things like a water bottle being sprayed or scissors sounds as I was getting my haircut to be pleasing and relaxing way before ASMR was ever a "thing". I'm highly interested in why some ppl get an actual physical response to certain sounds when others don't..

I'm with you. I'd like to find out more about exactly how ASMR works. I've always enjoyed the feeling it brings me at those special and always all too short points in my life. Like you mentioned haircuts. There is nothing worse than an overly chatty barber/stylist, am I right? I've been experiencing ASMR peppered throughout my entire life, and I'm over 50. The first experience I can remember having I was only 7 years old. So I know it has been around for much longer than it has had a name (which is somewhere like 10 - 15 years ago right?) So yeah, I'd love to see some rigorous scientific research to prove it is a real thing. And right after that, maybe they can then prove it is NOT A SEXUAL THING. It is not. Yet everyone who doesn't understand it will immediately say it must be some kind of weird sex thing. NO. No. No. No. No.

haven't watched yet, but with that map you provided, it could be that people hear mini earthquakes from the movement of the tectonic plates, since most hearings are around that area, and all around different coasts of the world.

I have tinnitus. Right ear high pitch ring, recently (and thankfully transient) a low hum in the left. I didn't know it was possible and it's maddening. I was sure there was a truck idling or someone vacuuming next door. But when it went on for hours past normal cleaning, knew I was screwed.

After researching about the link between tinnitus and alcohol I stopped drinking. About two weeks later the hum disappeared. Came back later after having just a few beers. Never heard this hum in my younger days.

Ok, so in Part :1 he showed people that were able to record the Windsor Hum, if this is supposed to be a medical condition similar to Tinnitus, as someone whom suffers from sever Tinnitus, I know of no way to record someone’s Tone. Mine is a super high-pitched frequency as I believe most people who complain of Tinnitus have.

I am an audio engineer, and I've heard it. It lasted several months, and it had a very pronounced feeling of coming from a distance. I did set up an entire low frequency detection system which detected frequencies from 0.1 hz to 200 hz. I never recorded the sound, even though I could clearly hear it. I could only assume it was a bizarre neurological effect. I ended up looking online, an lo and behold, there's a plethora of others hearing this too.

Fellow audio engineer here - what did this detection system consist of? Currently I'm trying to record it with a UMIK-1 calibration microphone with no luck of course.

@tacklemcclean I tried many methods, but when I took 2 15 inch bass amplifiers and reversed the signal to use the actual speaker as a mic, putting one upstairs, and another down in the basement as left and right channels, I had the best luck.

Signal range was solid from 2hz to 200hz

@tacklemcclean I used Adobe Audion and combined left and right channels to produce a spectrograph. Getting readings at ultra low frequencies required recording at ridiculously low sample rates (like 500hz) and upsampling to 44.1k to read out the spectrographs with more clarity.

That's a really cool solution! In my case I think the easiest way is to assume nerves in my head playing tricks on me.

There's this trick where you snap your fingers to the back of your head (while also keeping your palms covering your ears) to alleviate tinnitus for a second or two. I've had success with this for regular high pitched tinnitus. But it seems to temporarily stop the hum for a second as well.

10000 Htz whine in my head every moment of every day. Learned to live with it for the last 20 years. The sound of running water cancels it out but I'd love to learn why it's there! PS: I'm 80% deaf.

Here in a DC suburb....we get it here too sometimes. And it seems like it's only within some people's range of hearing (ie. only some people hear it and some can't really tell its there unless they strain hard)

i wonder why there are no recordings of this phenomenon. the reason being i have heard a genuine recording which clearly has the humming noise in the background recorded from an house in a isolated location. and it sounds exactly as all evidence of hum noises around the world have mentioned. i genuinely don't think its tinnitus

I just heard it the second time, and again I had both windows wide open due to heat at around 2:30am and really felt it primarily coming from outside, lol.
Although in my case it was quite short, only like 10-15sec.
