Forever Young
The Interactive Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Let's dance in style, let's dance for a while
Heaven can wait, we're only watching the skies
Hoping for the best but expecting the worst
Are you gonna drop the bomb or not?

Let us die young or let us live forever
We don't have the power but we never say never
Sitting in a sandpit, life is a short trip
The music's for the sad men

Can you imagine when this race is won
Turn our golden faces into the sun
Praising our leaders, we're getting in tune
The music's played by the, the mad men

Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever, forever and ever?
Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever? Forever young

Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
Sooner or later, they all will be gone
Why don't they stay young?

It's so hard to get old without a cause
I don't want to perish like a fading horse
Youth's like diamonds in the sun
And diamonds are forever

So many adventures couldn't happen today
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams swinging out of the blue
We let them come true

Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever, forever and ever?
Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever, forever and ever?

Forever young, I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever?

Overall Meaning

The Interactive's song "Forever Young" is an anthem for youth, capturing the idea that young people should enjoy their lives to the fullest in the present moment, while simultaneously expressing a desire to remain young forever. The opening lines set the tone for the song, inviting listeners to dance in style and enjoy life. The reference to heaven waiting suggests that the time for serious contemplation and reflection will come later, after the thrill of being young has worn off.

The second stanza speaks to the human desire for longevity, and the hope that technology will extend life beyond its current limits. The reference to "sitting in a sandpit" speaks to the fleeting nature of life, as if time slips away like grains of sand through our fingers. Yet, the music remains a comfort, an outlet for the melancholy that often accompanies this realization.

The third stanza recognizes that all people face mortal impermanence, whether they are like water, heat, melody, or beat. Regardless of the type, everyone will eventually "be gone." The desire to remain forever young is a longing for the time when anything is possible and adventure awaits around every corner. The song ends on a nostalgic note, reflecting on the many dreams that young people have, many of which will never be realized.

Just turned 63 , lived through the finest musical decades, 60's,
70's, 80's and 90's. Thanks to John Peel I started to get into house
and trance in the mid 90's and on new years eve1999 I went to meet a
mate of mine to get some acid.. He couldn't get any but asked me if I'd
be interested in a pill instead. After Old Lang Syne I was walking
home and happened to be walking past a nightclub and could hear the beat
through the walls so I went inside. It was the start of 3 years of
pills and being the first on the dance floor and the last off and this
amazing track was part of that journey. To say I feel privileged is an
understatement...

Same here, I miss Shelleys in Stoke-on-Trent, sadly like most other venues, closed.

@djdrax7203

@@paulstubbs3885 Yeah, my favorite club, The Plaza, in St. Helens closed for 'refurbishment' over 20 years ago. It reopened as a pub which didn't last 6 months.. The ground floor was eventually converted into shop units whilst the upper floor remains as a time capsule of the club.

@leovaeg

living young is about being in the moment, about living for today. it's having optimism for tomorrow, fond memories of yesterday, and always to seek new experiences. living young means to live the way you want to live - to have fun and enjoy

@UPBEATFOREVER

Which is all delusional aspects of life!movies,music and all of the above make believe!!if anybody heard the original version,Alphaville sang and asked us"do you want to live forever and forever young.i react consciencely in my mind,NOBODY is going to live forever young or be forever young.if anybody wants do these things.death is the only answer.it is a reset of life,maybe a ressurrection.a clean slate for your mind,body,and soul from your earthly human body.and ETERNITY.NOBODY really has the real answer for that.GOD will always be great and merciful for his believers and the latter too,no remorse and demise for his non-believers.as a human i speak for the human race.there is no solid proff or evidence.each of us individuals have to find out one day in the AFTERLIFE.
