Sometimes
The Jesus and Mary Chain Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Kid's got something keeps it well hid
One of these days I'm gonna shake off the lid
Dig beneath the dirt maybe scrape beneath the skin
It's getting so bad I think I'd die to get in her
Sometimes you just can't get enough
I got the feeling that I've been here before
I'm on my knees and I'm kissing the floor
I got the feeling that I've crashed in a car
I got the feeling aw babe you're a star

And you understand
Sometimes you just can't get enough

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Jesus and Mary Chain's song "Sometimes" seem to be about an intense attraction towards someone who is extremely guarded and hard to read. The opening line "Kid's got something keeps it well hid" implies that the person in question has a secret or a hidden quality that the singer is desperate to uncover. This person's allure is so strong that the singer is willing to dig beneath the surface and even "scrape beneath the skin" to find out what it is.

However, the object of the singer's fascination remains out of reach, and their desire becomes almost painful: "It's getting so bad I think I'd die to get in her." Despite this, the singer keeps coming back for more, feeling like he's been in this situation before ("I got the feeling that I've been here before"), and struggling to contain his overwhelming urge to be close to her ("I'm on my knees and I'm kissing the floor").

The final line "Sometimes you just can't get enough" encapsulates the addictive nature of this desire, and the idea that sometimes no matter how much you have, it's never quite enough.

@dennisr.levesque2320

Is that a reference to Mazzy Star?

@dennisr.levesque2320

I have a couple of tracks I can't identify. Sounds just like this group. But it's not in their list. I wonder if it might be in the girl singer's list? Who's she? is that Mazzy Star? What other name might these tracks go by? I'm not even sure if I got the name of the song right. But, they're 1)He Always Wears A Frown. 2)Who Will Love You In This Town. Any Idea? Can't find them anywhere.
