The Way It Was
The Killers Lyrics
I drove through the desert last night
I carried the weight of our last fight
Elvis singing "don't be cruel"
And I wonder if you feel it too
It's like we're going under
Somewhere outside the lonely Esmeralda county line
The question of my heart came to my mind
If I go on
Can it be
The way it was
When we met
Did you forget all about those golden nights?
Maybe a thief stole your heart
Or maybe we just drifted apart
I remember driving
In my daddy's car to the airfield
Blanket on the hood, backs against the windshield
Back then this thing was running on momentum, love and trust
That paradise is buried in the dust
If I go on
With you by my side
Can it be
The way it was
When we met
Did you forget all about those golden nights?
(The way it was)
All of our plans have fallen through
Sometimes a dream, it don't come true
Darling!
Darling!
If we go on
Can it be (can it be)
The way it was
When we met
Did you forget all about them golden nights?
If I go on
With you by my side
Can it be
The way it was
My heart is true
Girl, it's just you
I'm thinking of
Can it be the way it was?
Maybe a thief stole your heart

That’ll probably be what’s written on its headstone! When we play it live and Dave’s riff starts, it’s magic. We all love that song, so that’s why it’s on here.”

@BB Cactus you’re wrong. There’s nothing wrong with the musical change and the growth of musicians. The lyrics in every Battle Born song are just as good as any of their albums, but the musical quality cannot compare Hot Fuss and is nowhere near as good as Sam’s Town. The Killers are my favorite band but Sam’s Town was their masterpiece. Every one of their albums after Sam’s Town has been good but nowhere near as good as Sam’s Town. Battle Born is the best from 2012 and on.

@Scott Palmtree you’re tripping. Sam’s Town was the Killers masterpiece. Battle Born isn’t even better then Day and Age. Battle Born is a good album but nowhere near as good as Sam’s Town. There isn’t a single song on Battle Born that can compare to the track “Sam’s Town”.
