Formed in 1963 in Muswell Hill, North London, they first gained prominence on the heels of the well-received and highly influential single "You Really Got Me" (1964). The group originally consisted of lead singer/guitarist Ray Davies, his brother lead guitarist Dave Davies, drummer Mick Avory, and bassist Pete Quaife. Quaife left (twice) in the late 1960s, and Avory finally left in 1984 as the result of a long-running dispute with Dave Davies, leaving only the Davies brothers as the core of the original group.
With Ray Davies' songwriting skills and unabashedly English voices, Dave Davies' impressive guitar work, and Avory's tight and steady drumming, the band became one of the best and most influential groups of British pop and the "British Invasion" of the U.S.A., lasting longer than any of their competitors, apart from the Rolling Stones, as they broke up in 1996. Their catalogue of songs has been covered by Van Halen, The Pretenders, The Black Keys, The Stranglers, Queens of the Stone Age , and many more.

Babies
The Kinks Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Can't get enough of your love
I'm a hog for you, baby
Can't get enough of your love
When I go to sleep at night
That's the only thing I'm thinking of
One little piggie ate a pizza (yeah)
But here's a little piggie comin' over your house
Gonna grab a love of your sweet lips
'Cause I'm a hog for you, baby
Can't get enough of your love
When I go to sleep at night
That's the only thing I'm thinking of, yeah
One little piggie went to London (yeah)
One piggie went to Hongkong
This little piggie's comin' over your house
Gonna love ya all night long
'Cause I'm a hog for you, baby
Can't get enough of your love
When I go to sleep at night
That's the only thing I'm thinking of
When I go to sleep at night
That's the only thing I'm thinking of
The Kinks's song "Babies" is a playful and flirtatious tune that talks about someone's obsession with their significant other's love. The lyrics convey the message that the singer cannot get enough of their lover's affection, and that's all they think about, especially when they go to sleep at night. The repetition of the line "I'm a hog for you, baby, can't get enough of your love" reinforces the idea that the singer is addicted to their lover's love and craves for more.
The song presents a vivid imagery of little piggies indulging in food and travel, which serves as a metaphor for the singer's desire to consume their lover's affection entirely. The line, "One little piggie ate a pizza, one piggie ate potato chips," creates a playful and light-hearted tone and adds humour to the lyrics. The use of the nursery rhyme "This little piggie went to market" in the lines "One little piggie went to London, one piggie went to Hongkong" adds to the whimsical feel of the song.
In conclusion, The Kinks's song "Babies" is a fun and catchy tune that highlights the singer's unquenchable thirst for their lover's love. The lyrics are playful, imaginative, and add a bit of humour to the song, making it a relatable and enjoyable listen for audiences across generations.
