Little Girl Blue
The Kozmic Blues Band Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sit there, hmm, count your fingers.
What else, what else is there to do ?
Oh and I know how you feel,
I know you feel that you're through.
Oh wah wah ah sit there, hmm, count,
Ah, count your little fingers,
My unhappy oh little girl, little girl blue, yeah.
Oh sit there, oh count those raindrops
Oh, feel 'em falling down, oh honey all around you.
Honey don't you know it's time,
I feel it's time,
Somebody told you 'cause you got to know
That all you ever gonna have to count on
Or gonna want to lean on
It's gonna feel just like those raindrops do
When they're falling down, honey, all around you.
Oh, I know you're unhappy.

Oh sit there, ah go on, go on
And count your fingers.
I don't know what else, what else
Honey have you got to do.
And I know how you feel,
And I know you ain't got no reason to go on
And I know you feel that you must be through.
Oh honey, go on and sit right back down,
I want you to count, oh count your fingers,
Ah my unhappy, my unlucky
And my little, oh, girl blue.
I know you're unhappy,

Ooh ah, honey I know,
Baby I know just how you feel.

Overall Meaning

The Kozmic Blues Band's song Little Girl Blue is a poignant ballad that uses vivid imagery and a soft melody to convey the sorrow and loneliness of the singer, who appears to be going through a difficult time. The singer starts by telling the singer to sit and count her fingers, indicating that there is nothing else for her to do. The singer is empathetic towards her situation, and in the next lines, says that she knows how she feels, and that the singer must be feeling like everything is over for her.

The second verse begins with the singer telling the singer to sit and count the raindrops, as they fall all around her. She reminds her that it's time for her to know that she must rely on the people around her, just like the raindrops fall naturally around her. The singer has a sense of compassion and understanding towards the singer's plight, and in the last verse, tells her to sit back down and count her fingers again, as there is nothing else for her to do. The singer acknowledges that the singer is unhappy, and wants her to know that she understands her feelings and what she's going through.

Overall, Little Girl Blue is a beautiful and poignant song that uses vivid imagery and melancholy music to convey the feeling of a protagonist who finds herself alone and hopeless. The song is meant to provide solace and understanding to anyone who may find themselves in a similar situation.

It's like in this song she's talking to her younger self. Makes me cry and I'm a man.

@meganadams22

I've never looked at it that way but you could be right

I remember listening to this song in college about the time it came out. I knew I was gay & wondered where my life was gonna take me. She spoke to me! There's a couple of places in the song where her voice is indescribably lovely. Bravo.
