When discussing the move to America many of the previous members were unable to leave prior commitments in New Zealand, and major line-up changes resulted. The current line-up consists of Mark Millard (vocals), Tim Smith (guitars) and Steve King (drums). They have released a total of eight albums in their 15 year history, two of which won Gospel Album of the Year at the NZ Music Awards (Marvel and The Lads). They performed at every Parachute Music Festival from 1993-2005, earning them a cult status among many fans.
2. The Lads were a Bedford, MA indie group. The Lads played a tight skillful new wave oriented sound coupled with power pop influences. Their one and only album is soaked with bright, energetic and effectual melodies that stand up to any of the more popular acts from the early 80's. I Got You
The Lads Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
My love for you should have faded long ago.
I wish I didn't need your kiss
Why must your kiss torture me as long as this.
I might be smilin' by now
With some new tender friend.
Smilin' by now
But when I try
Something in that heart says "No".
You're still there
I wish I didn't love you so.
The lyrics to The Lads' song "I Got You" speak to the complex emotions that arise when one still loves someone who they know they should move on from. The singer laments about how they wish their love would have faded long ago and that they didn't need their love interest's kiss anymore, which only torments them. Despite their efforts to move on and possibly have a new romantic partner, their heart is conflicted, and they cannot seem to let go of the old love.
The lyrics convey a sense of longing, hurt, and the struggle of trying to move on from a past love that is still present in one's heart. The singer even acknowledges that they might be happier with a new partner, but they cannot help the way they feel. It is a relatable experience that many people have gone through, which is why the song has resonated with so many listeners.
In summary, "I Got You" is a heartfelt song that explores the complexities of unrequited love and the struggle to move on from a past relationship.
