Slough Feg was formed in Central Pennsylvania, but relocated to San Francisco, California in 1990 with the hopes of "resurrecting the Heavy Metal scene in America". The band produced three demo tapes in the early 90s before releasing their self titled debut album. Bassist Justin Phelps left the band shortly after. In 1998, the European music label Dragonheart signed Slough Feg and the band released their second album 'Twilight of the Idols' in 1999. The band released 'Down Among the Deadmen' in 2000, and 'Traveller' in 2003 (renowned for being based on Game Designer Workshop's 1977 science fiction role-playing game of the same name)..
In 2005 the band moved to the Italian record label Cruz del Sur and released their fifth studio album, 'Atavism'. The band also officially shortened their name to 'Slough Feg' after the album's release. After the change of name, John Cobbett left in good terms with the band, and was replaced by current member Angelo Tringali in January of 2005. Around the same time, drummer and founding member Greg Haa left the band for personal reasons, and was replaced by current member, Antoine Reuben-Diavola. In 2007 released their sixth album (second with Cruz del Sur), 'Hardworlder', recorded and produced with former bass player Justin Phelps. In 2008 the band released 'The Slay Stack Grows' on Shadow Kingdom Records. This was a double CD release of old demos and live recordings from the bands early days.
The band toured in Europe, and the United States, doing coast-to-coast tours summers of 2005 and 2006, including an appearance at the first annual Alehorn of Power festival in Chicago, Illinois. The band has also toured the United States, doing a coast-to-coast tour for the first time in the summer of 2005 with another such tour planned for the summer of 2006, which will include an appearance at the first annual Alehorn of Power festival in Chicago, IL.
The Final Gambit
The Lord Weird Slough Feg Lyrics

But now your reign is through
Dissect the human race
Until they conquer you
Fame is now mine
Even though it's illusion
Space and now time
2000 years ago
My race created you
We turned you loose in space
Now a polluted zoo
Fate is no crime
I can face this illusion
Space and now time
Has just reached its conclusion
Light years are passing before me I'll soon begin
Carnivores roam the stars all in the place of men
Singular manifestation of time
And as your kingdom falls
I've taken after you
You may have wished this on me
And now you see it through
Your time is rolling over
My time is coming soon
I'll resurrect the ancient spores
Eclipse the Vargr moon
Matter warps space
So now time is illusion
How can I face this miraculous conclusion?
Light years are passing before me I'll soon begin
Right from the start I can see you're an alien
Singular manifestation of time
Your stories do amuse me
Although your eyes are vacant
I did not wish this on you
Your madness is quite blatant
Inside your mind I see the source of your hallucinations
Your body's wasted but your brain's on fire
The future still looks grim now
The human race is wasted
But soon you must turn over
The power you have tasted
In all your mercy I can see you are an ideal agent
To bring this curse upon the galaxy
Wait and see
Light years are passing before me I'll soon begin
Carnivores roam the stars all in the place of man
Infinite manifestation of time
The song “The Final Gambit” by The Lord Weird Slough Feg is a dense and philosophical track that contemplates the fate of humanity and the consequences of exploring the unknowns of space. The first few lines seem to suggest that there is a conflict between humanity and an extraterrestrial race, and that the astronaut’s optimistic belief that they have conquered space is about to crumble. The message is clear that no matter how powerful humans become, there is always someone or something more powerful that can take it all away. This theme is reinforced with lines like “Dissect the human race/ Until they conquer you” highlighting that power is fleeting and that we must always be on guard against those who seek to take it from us.
The lyrics then take a strange turn when the singer reveals that their race created humans 2000 years ago and set them loose in space as part of some sort of experiment. As they observe humans they see a world that is a “polluted zoo” suggesting that humanity has become no better than animals. The song then enters a cosmic dimension, where the singer contemplates how “Matter warps space/ So now time is an illusion.” Up until this point the lyrics presented a picture of a physical universe, but now it suggests that reality is malleable and can be shaped by thought. The singer ends the song by calling for a new agent of change to bring the curse of humanity on the galaxy, implying that humankind has a power that has grown too dangerous to be wielded.
