THE MANHATTANS were originally: Winfred "Blue" Lovett, Richard Taylor, Kenny Kelley, George "Smitty" Smith and Sonny Bivins. The quintet reportedly took it's name not from the big city across the water from New Jersey, but from the cocktail known as the Manhattan featuring whiskey, vermouth, and bitters. Still, the name suggested class, something the Manhattans have epitomized throughout their long career.
Between 1970 and 1973 they recorded for Starday/King Records , and by 1973 they were signed to industry behemoth Columbia where their career finally took off.
After 10 years of lower charting singles, the 1976 hit "Kiss and Say Goodbye" was the group's biggest hit to date and led to a performance at Jimmy carter's 1977 inaugural. In 1980 they won a Grammy for Shining Star written and produced by Leo Graham. In the mid 1980's female singer Regina Belle was briefly added to the lineup, singing on the Bobby Womack-produced single, "Where Did We Go Wrong" (a duet with Gerald Alston). She also contributed to The Manhattans 1986 Columbia Records album, "Back To Basics" before signing as a solo artist.
Two versions of The Manhattans have soldiered on to today. One lead by original member Sonny Bivins, and another created after a long hiatus, when founding member Blue Lovett began working with former lead Gerald Alston for a late career touring resurgence. Alston also appeared on Wu-Tang Clan's song "Stick Me For My Riches" in 2007.
In 2013, "Original" member Edward "Sonny" Bivins group features "Sonny" Bivins, Lee Williams, Charles Hardy, Harsey Hemphill and Alvin Pazant. In 2013, The Manhattans CD single "Just For Tonite" was released by Westwood Music Group. Currently, the group is recording material for a 2014 release. And without you I'm an empty shell
There's no house without a home
And there's no man who wants to be alone
There's no child without a dream
And there's no song without a meaning
There's no me without you
There's no me without you
There's no life without a plan
Every woman wants herself a good man
There's a heartaches without tears
And time just can't go by without the years
That's how I know
There's no me without you
There's no me without you
You know there's no stars without the night
Huh, and there's no wrong without a right
And there's no good without a bad
And when one man is happy , the other man is sad
Oh that's how I know
There's no me without you
There's no me without you
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
That's how I know (That's how I know, baby, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
There's no me without you (My, my, my, my, my, my, my, my)
That's how I know (There's no house, there's no house without a home)
That's how I know (And there's no man, no man who wants to be alone)
The lyrics of The Manhattans' song "There's No Me Without You" speak of the essentiality of love and companionship in one's life. The song begins with the singer proclaiming that their love interest is their life, and without them, they are an empty shell. This line sets the tone for the rest of the song, emphasizing the importance of having someone special to share one's life with.
The subsequent verses of the song further reinforce this theme by offering examples of other things that cannot exist without their corresponding counterpart. There's no house without a home, no man who wants to be alone, no child without a dream, and no song without a meaning. The refrain "That's how I know there's no me without you" is repeated throughout the song to hammer home the central idea.
The bridge of the song shifts the focus to more universal concepts, emphasizing that there's no stars without the night, no wrong without a right, and no good without a bad. The song concludes by reiterating the central idea with the singer proclaiming that their love interest is essential to their existence.
Overall, "There's No Me Without You" is a powerfully emotional song that speaks to the universal desire to find someone to love and be loved by. The lyrics convey a sense of vulnerability and dependence, but also the sense that love and companionship are worth all the risks and sacrifices that come with them.

another great song..... Darling, you send me
I know you send me
Darling, you send me
Honest you do, honest you do
Honest you do, whoa
You thrill me
I know you, you, you thrill me
Darling, you, you, you, you thrill me
Honest you do
At first I thought it was infatuation
But, woo, it's lasted so long
Now I find myself wanting
To marry you and take you home, whoa
You, you, you, you send me
I know you send me
I know you send me
Honest you do
Whoa-oh-oh, whenever I'm with you
I know, I know, I know when I'm near you
Mm hmm, mmm hmm, honest you do, honest you do
Whoa-oh-oh, I know-oh-oh-oh
I know, I know, I know, when you hold me
Whoa, whenever you kiss me
Mm hmm, mm hmm, honest you do
At first I thought it was infatuation
But, woo, it's lasted so long
Now I find myself wanting
To marry you and take you home
I know, I know, I know you send me
I know you send me
Whoa, you, you, you, you send me
Honest you do

Mine too. And I agree that it is no disrespect to Sam Cooke. It’s hard to take a true classic and renew it.
