The Means was originally named Black Star Sapphire (from 2006 – 2008), and under this name the band have expressed a wide variety of influences, ranging from the freak folk scene over noise rock to avantgarde. As a result of these influences, the bands early work was very diverse and unorthodox, and was not defined by a specific sound or genre. From autumn 2008 the bands sound developed in a different direction, where samples and electronic sounds was being adapted into the soundscape, thus creating a new and more crisp sound, which is still undergoing a rapid development. It was also in this period that the band changed it’s name to The Means – a name that encapsolates the essence of the bands new sound much better – for now anyway.
The band also runs the the record label How About Death? Records on which they have released their own material.
2) The Means were formed when Jason Fredrick (former Spiveys, current Love Story in Blood Red) joined up with Brad Swiniarski (former Bob City, current Vespin frontman, Emily & Dave Allen (Bloody Matt Dillons) in Columbus, OH. An amazing band that continued to explore it’s sound with each release. A little Jesus Lizard, Nation of Ulysses, and a little Modern Lovers. Released 3 albums, 2 for doubleplusgood, in a little over two years before calling it quits.
3) Punk rock from Japan.

Most of their lyrics were written by Chuck Foster. They released one album, The Means of Communication, on Spurious Records in 1980.

Become so rich everyone will love me
Buy a house on the coast
Fly to Paris, forget this shit hole
It makes me cringe to walk these streets
With all the junkies and whores
I deserve a place with a view
Away from the wretches like you
Chance to get filthy rich
So brush your hair and straighten your clothes
I can't have you look like this
It's a big deal, it's the only real
Chance that I'll ever have
I've mortgaged my future, I'm out on a limb
I won't fail because of you
You understand my disdain
I see your clothes wrinkled and stained
You smell like a dog coming in from the rain
That won't do - not today
It's a big deal, it's my one real
Chance to get filthy rich
Put on some lipstick, iron your clothes
I can't have you look like this
It's a big deal, took me years to seal
It could blow up just like that
Can't have some poor girl huddled up by my door, girl
Reducing the value of my dinero
Big deal, one real
Chance to get filthy rich
Look in a mirror, fix up your hair, dear
We can't have you look like that
Get off your ass, don't give me no sass
I won't have you look like that
I won't have you look like that
The lyrics to The Means's song "It's On" depict the mindset of a person who sees their opportunity to make a lot of money as their ticket to a better life. The singer expresses a strong desire to escape their current environment, which they perceive as filled with junkies and whores. They believe that achieving wealth will earn them admiration and love from others. The singer's disdain for those who don't fit their idea of success is evident in their criticism of the appearance and smell of someone they address. The lyrics convey a sense of entitlement and a belief that money can fix all their problems.
The song explores themes of social status, materialism, and personal ambition. It reflects the desire for upward mobility, but also the dehumanization of those who do not conform to societal expectations. The singer sees their pursuit of wealth as a significant and perhaps only opportunity to elevate themselves, and they are willing to distance themselves from anyone they perceive as holding them back.
Overall, "It's On" portrays a character consumed by the pursuit of wealth and the associated social status that they believe will bring them happiness and escape from their current circumstances.
