The Mechanisms Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

So there you have it.
The train has arrived, and it's only a matter of time.
The prisoners have disappeared,
Through twenty inches of solid steel and fifty heavily armed guards.
They were right.
I've chartered a small ship,
And as soon as I've finished this bottle,
I'm setting off for the Harmimus mining colony,
Far from the Idrisil System.
I'm not stopping there,
Just refuel and keep going.
If anyone hears this report in time,
I suggest you do the same.

Inspector Second Class Lyfrassir Edda, signing off.
Good Luck.

Overall Meaning

The first line of the lyrics, "So there you have it," signals the end of a report or a confession of sorts. The singer of these lines is Inspector Second Class Lyfrassir Edda, who is divulging crucial information about the escape of prisoners from a train by detailing his own impending escape. The train in question has been heavily guarded, but the prisoners managed to disappear through solid steel, which suggests that they may have had help from someone inside. The singer's decision to leave the Idrisil System indicates that he knows something dangerous that could threaten his life if he stays.

As he drinks his bottle, he explains that he has chartered a small ship and is heading to the Harmimus mining colony. However, his final destination and ultimate plan is unclear. He hints that he is not stopping there and will keep going, suggesting that he is on the run from someone or something. His advice to anyone listening to the report is to do the same, though it is unclear what exactly he is warning people of. In any case, the song leaves us with a sense of danger and intrigue.

If it makes anyone feel slightly more cheerful the Lyfrassir of the Poetic Edda was one of the two survivors of Ragnarok due to hiding in the same place the Mining Colony was named after, so his chances are surprisingly good

@willnorman-bargo

That is a smart naming thing.

@centurosproductions8827

Wait, beings are allowed to survive Ragnarok?

@aceofjacks7071

@Centuros Productions yep! in the original myth, two humans known as Líf and Lífthrasir survived to repopulate the world. Ragnarok is an apocalypse, but an apocalypse doesn't necessarily mean ALL life dies, just a massive change that is cataclysmic for humanity

@eliburry-schnepp6012

@Centuros Productions A surprising number of characters survive Ragnarok. Alongside Lif and Lifthrasir there's also Thor's sons Magni and Modi, Odin's son Vidarr, the unnamed daughter/reincarnation of Sol, and Niddhog. Most of the goddesses survive as well as most don't fight in the battle.

@margheritaparacini7729

Gotta love that the horrors didn't show up until the Mechanisms left

@neptuneknox7729

"fuck this shit im out vine*

@khris7525

The Horrors will wait patiently for the Mechanisms to leave, but only for 25 turns. After that, they will begin their assault.

@essaimart

Hello everyone. Alex here. I'd just like to take a moment to say we're experiencing heavy interference, can anyone hear us?

@luminanightfall4111

WAIT WHAT?! That was Alex, omg, I didn't notice until now!
