Thanks for introducing me to both this song and the term "raga rock".

One of the song writers, "Al Cooper", was really Al Kooper who played organ on Bob Dylan's Like A Rolling Stone", was in the Blues Project, founded Blood, Sweat and Tears, made Super Session with Mike Bloomfield and Stephen Stills and found and produced Lynyrd Skynyrd among other things. Levine co-wrote a string of hits for Tony Orlando and Dawn. Together Kooper and Levine co-wrote This Diamond Ring recorded by Gary Lewis and the Playboys.

Dick Clark's music publishing company was involved, which was surprising, in a way. Also, future Monkees record producer Chip Douglas was involved with this group when they recorded for Warner.

LOL A good skit on all the faux-oriental/ yogi Pop sounds of the time .. with a very nearly Hollies sound to it. I like it - though I doubt I'd've spent six shillings (plus) to buy a copy in the UK at the time (it seems records were relatively expensive here back then, roughly six pounds in today's calculations = for one 45 RPM single). Coo! ;o)

This song sounds so much like The Standells' "Why Pick On Me", it's similarity is startling. I notice Al Kooper's name is misspelled as "Al Cooper" on the label, giving some to think incorrectly that this was an early career song written by Alice Cooper.
