1. The Moonies… Read Full Bio ↴There are/were at least 3 bands known as The Moonies:
1. The Moonies are a world-renowned band of blue aliens.
2. The Moonies (also know as Moonies) were an Adelaide band who formed in 1993 and disbanded in 2000. They were inspired by the lo-fi movement of the time and their first 2 albums" Losing Generations" and "Til Musical Differences Do Us Part" were released (both in 1996) on their 'format of choice', cassette. They formed their own label "A-Band-on Vinyl Records".
Their visual style and image was one of irreverence and their onstage approach was by turns confrontational, hilarious, unpredictable. They prided themselves on being prolific songwriters. Ladies and Gents (1998) their 3rd album is considered their masterpiece. The twin CD release "At the Movies" and "On TV" was released in 2000.
3. Dutch band from Nijmegen, active from 1984 to 1987. Members: Frank Van Den Elzen, Martin Van Nielen, Michel Koot, Moniek and Roeland van Niele. Garage rock of the more dirty fuzzy kind.

Hi, Ken
You want to go for a ride?
Sure, Ken
Jump in
I'm a Barbie girl, in the Barbie world
Life in plastic, it's fantastic
Imagination, life is your creation
Come on, Barbie, let's go party
I'm a Barbie girl, in the Barbie world
Life in plastic, it's fantastic
You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation
I'm a blond bimbo girl in a fantasy world
Dress me up, make it tight, I'm your dolly
You're my doll, rock'n'roll, feel the glamour in pink
Kiss me here, touch me there, hanky panky
You can touch
You can play
If you say, "I'm always yours" (ooh, oh)
I'm a Barbie girl, in the Barbie world
Life in plastic, it's fantastic
You can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation
Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ah ah ah yeah)
Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ooh oh, ooh oh)
Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ah ah ah yeah)
Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ooh oh, ooh oh)
Make me walk, make me talk, do whatever you please
I can act like a star, I can beg on my knees
Come jump in, bimbo friend, let us do it again
Hit the town, fool around, let's go party
You can touch
You can play
If you say, "I'm always yours"
You can touch
You can play
If you say, "I'm always yours"
Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ah ah ah yeah)
Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ooh oh, ooh oh)
Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ah ah ah yeah)
Come on, Barbie, let's go party (ooh oh, ooh oh)
I'm a Barbie girl, in the Barbie world
Life in plastic, it's fantastic

Oh, I'm having so much fun
Well, Barbie, we're just getting started
Oh, I love you, Ken
The Moonies's song "Barbie Girl" presents a playful and exaggerated version of materialism, beauty standards, and gender stereotypes. The lyrics revolve around an exchange between two dolls, Barbie and Ken, where they tease each other with their synthetic beauty and perfect plastic bodies. Barbie is portrayed as a "blond bimbo girl" who lives in a "fantasy world" where everything is pink, glamorous, and controlled by her male partner, Ken. The chorus emphasizes Barbie's motto: "Life in plastic, it's fantastic" and encourages the listener to join them in a hedonistic party where they can "brush my hair, undress me everywhere." The song's lyrics are a commentary on consumer culture and how it shapes our desires, values, and sense of self.
The Moonies's "Barbie Girl" was released in 1997 and became an instant hit. It topped the charts in over 15 countries and sold more than 7 million copies worldwide. The song's catchy melody and tongue-in-cheek lyrics captured the imagination of both children and adults, although it received mixed reviews from critics, who accused it of promoting sexism and objectification of women. The song also sparked a legal battle between The Moonies and the toy manufacturer Mattel, who sued the band for trademark infringement and damage to their brand's reputation. The lawsuit was ultimately dismissed by a judge who ruled that "Barbie Girl" was a parody protected by the First Amendment.

Hey moonies, if you are reading this, I got a fun fact for you
After the original release of the song by Aqua, Mattel got a hold of them and sued them for using the Barbie character but later in 2002 it was dismissed by the judge who said "The parties are advised to chill".
