The Morning Benders is a band from Berkeley, California, formed in 2005, consisting of Julian Harmon, Tim Or, Jonathan Chu, and Christopher Chu. In 2008, they released their debut album Talking Through Tin Cans on +1 Records. The band has toured in support of Broken Bells (Spring/Summer 2010), Grizzly Bear (Fall 2009), The Kooks and Death Cab for Cutie (Summer 2008), Ra Ra Riot (Fall 2008), The Black Keys (Summer 2010), and has also played with Yo La Tengo, MGMT, Grand Archives, Yeasayer, Two Gallants, The Rosebuds, Au Revoir Simone, We Are Scientists, and White Rabbits. They also toured with The Submarines in 2009. Having shared the stage with other bands such as Beach House, MGMT, Ra Ra Riot, Grizzly Bear and Girls, these boys are seasoned vets. Don’t let their age deceive you.
In December 2008, iTunes deemed Talking Through Tin Cans the best indie/alternative album of 2008.
The Morning Benders recorded their 2010 album Big Echo in San Francisco and mixed it in Brookyln. Chris Chu and Chris Taylor (Grizzly Bear) produced it in eleven days. On the twelfth day they rejoiced. There are 10 tracks on Big Echo, which The Morning Benders think is an ideal length for an album.
In March of 2012 the band announced that they would be changing their name to POP ETC.

The Morning Benders Lyrics

Get too hot and can't go on
I grew up in a town much different than this one
Where the language is upside down
So we can't talk about it
You try your best to stay awake
I been digging so long
But you put me on this vacation
It's really not the time
It's winter halfway across the world
Somewhere its bright daylight
And somewhere someone sails the ocean
Somewhere someone's telling the seas
Somewhere someone's calling out my name
Somewhere they can't see me
They can't see me
I lived in the background
I sleep behind the scenes
I had someone take all my calls
And watched them outplay me
And I can't believe what you're hearing
I can't believe what you said
I can't believe I can't find this damn address
Before I drop dead
And somewhere someone sails the ocean
And somewhere someone's running the streets
Somewhere someone's calling out my name
Somewhere they're looking for me
The lyrics to The Morning Benders' "All Day Day Light" are quite poetic and introspective. The opening lines, "What can only be here, get too hot and can't go on," suggest a feeling of being trapped or overwhelmed. The singer then reflects on their upbringing in a town that is vastly different from their current environment, where the language is "upside down." This could be interpreted as feeling out of place or disconnected from those around them.
The next lines, "So we can't talk about it, you try your best to stay awake," suggest a sense of frustration or boredom. The singer then refers to "digging" for a long time and not knowing which "hole" to take. This could symbolize feeling lost or unsure of one's path in life.
The chorus introduces the idea of being on vacation, but it not being the right time for it. This could imply a feeling of disconnection or dissociation from one's own life. The mention of winter and daylight being present somewhere else in the world further emphasizes a feeling of being removed from the present moment. The second verse describes the singer's tendency to stay in the background and let others take the lead. They express disbelief at what they are hearing and saying, and being unable to find an address before they "drop dead."
The song comes across as a reflection on feeling lost and disconnected from oneself and one's surroundings. The poetic language and recurring imagery add to its dreamlike quality.

I think they're fantastic. I've been a fan since their first album, when everyone compared them to a young version of the Beatles. Lyrics are the only thing you were looking at in this song? The production is amazing, it's very catchy, and the lyrics are far from suck.

Can't remember where I first heard this song - but when I first heard it, I f**kin' LOVED it!
Fantastic song and the energy is infectious. Great track when you need to pick yourself up or are feeling energetic. Maybe housework too, LOL.
Makes me want to dance, punch my first in the air, shout and laugh with tears all at once :)
