The Moths Lyrics

It isn't everyday that someone unbuckles my belt
and whispers in my ears four letter words
Says the filthiest things I think I've ever heard
I haven't come prepared there aren't many moments like this
She doesn't seem to care so we'll probably end up with kids
But I could spend my life with her and she feels the same
Least that's what she's screaming over and over again
Oh valentine I think you might have saved my life
Oh valentine, oh valentine
Oh valentine I think you might have saved my life
Oh valentine, oh valentine
We'll move back to the countryside mistake the abattoir machines
For ordinary tractor sounds and live a life of artifice
and you can read me Oscar Wilde and I can read your horoscope
I'll write lines to break your heart every other week or so
'Cause what we've got they can never take away from us
Not in a million years
Even when the initial flames of love have gone
Our souls are fingertip to fingertip
Oh valentine I think you might have saved my life
Oh valentine, oh valentine
Oh valentine I think you might have saved my life
Oh valentine, oh valentine
Valentine
Valentine
Been waiting a long time
For someone like you
Maybe we'll settle down
In a quiet little seaside town
An electric fire
A broken black and white tv
The giro's in tomorrow's post
and what we can't afford we'll steal
and when we have children
They'll be just like us
They'll be curious
and with any luck look just like you
I'll take the photographs
'Cause when they're old enough they'll ask
what was it like in the day
When it was possible to fall in love?
Oh valentine I think you might have saved my life
Oh valentine, oh valentine
Oh valentine I think you might have saved my life
Oh valentine, oh valentine
Valentine
The lyrics of The Moth's song "Valentine" tell the story of a deep and passionate love affair. The singer addresses their lover, referring to them as their "dearest valentine," and confesses their intense attraction and connection. The lyrics suggest that this encounter is out of the ordinary, as the singer mentions that it isn't everyday someone unbuckles their belt and says four-letter words. Despite not being prepared for this moment, the singer expresses their willingness to spend their life with this person, and it seems that their feelings are reciprocated by their lover's passionate exclamations.
The second verse delves into their future plans together. They talk about moving back to the countryside, mistaking the sounds of the abattoir machines for ordinary tractor sounds. This line suggests a desire to escape the noise and artificiality of city life, opting for a simpler and more genuine existence. They imagine living a life of artifice, with references to reading Oscar Wilde and horoscopes, and writing lines to break each other's hearts. The lyrics emphasize that what they have is precious and cannot be taken away from them.
The final verse paints a picture of their future together, settling down in a quiet seaside town. They describe their modest living conditions, such as an electric fire and a broken black and white TV. They mention the giro (welfare check) arriving in the post and how they may have to steal what they can't afford. However, they express hope that their children will be just like them, curious and perhaps resembling their lover. The song ends with a reflection on the rarity of falling in love and the possibility that their valentine may have saved their life.
Overall, "Valentine" portrays a passionate and unconventional love affair, filled with desire, intensity, and dreams of a different kind of life.
