echo
The Movement Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You bought your politicians

You bought the best police

You build another wall

There must be more to life than all this shit
We vote for something 2nd time

The first NO! really wasn't right

But you don't care for nothing

Cause money talks and money made your world

They think they're so clever

The rich think they're so right

They say it is no time to fight

There's still an echo

Of all the young kids falling in the streets

Shot down by the police

And justified in all high places

But they can never keep us down

I see their faces on the news

I see how TV's making truth

Majority's confused

Believing all the lies they telling you

There's still an echo

Of all the young kids falling in the streets

Shot down by the police

And justified in all high places

But they can never keep us down

Overall Meaning

The Movement's song Echo discusses social and political issues, such as corruption and police brutality. The first verse highlights the power and control that the wealthy have over the government and law enforcement. The line "There must be more to life than all this shit" expresses frustration and disappointment in the current state of society. The second verse critiques the idea that the rich and powerful believe they are always right, despite the harm they cause to others. The lyrics refer to the police shooting and killing young kids with apparent impunity, with the justification coming from the higher echelons of society.

The chorus emphasizes the resilience of the people, as they cannot be silenced or oppressed completely. The repeated line "There's still an echo" suggests that the voices of those who have been victimized still resonate and cannot be ignored. The song also highlights the media's role in spreading misinformation and maintaining the status quo. In the end, the lyrics imply that a change is necessary but will only come from collective action and resistance.

We walk this ground till the leaves turn brown
And the springtime calls us again
We wobble as the world spins around and around
It reminds us of the spaces we've been.
We see the new day bring the sun and the moon
And whisper our secrets to the dead.
Our Voices echo in triumph and doom
Only the spirits will remember what we said.
And they say nothing's gonna be the same
Everything is gonna have to change.
But we keep on pushin like a steaming train
Hoping that the fire will remain.
But I say everyone will know our name
Spoken by the people or the page.
And maybe we'll live on in the wind and the rain
To see our children do the same.
Love you guys :)

Met these guys at a small club in Salt Lake City a year ago and they are real ass dudes, humble and appreciative of their fans. After the show they came and hung out with us took pictures, gave my gf their last shirt with their first logo and the whole band signed it. I made sure that they knew that their message was heard. Unfortunately I had to miss them at the reggae festival because I was immobilized in bead with severe back pain. Was totally bummed. Everything I do falls apart. All the important necessities in life have been taken away due to no fault of my own. Life is trying to kick my ass but I'm not going to let it at least not without a fight. So there's a big hill in front of me but I'm going to keep throwin' coal on that goddamn fire....that's why I'm here now, listening to my boys so I can share these words and remind myself in the end there will be more glory by the man who fight and loses than the one who never tries and never wins.
