A Beautiful Song
The Nazz Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wanted to write you a beautiful, beautiful song
I wanted to write you a beautiful, beautiful song
A beautiful song
The kind that makes your memory
go sailing through the window
Like in a movie
And fly away, a million miles into space
And look down
And look down on the lights of the world
Like people were as nice as the sight of it all
Just you
I wanted to sing you a beautiful, beautiful song
I wanted to sing you a beautiful, beautiful song
But you know what a cynic I am

And my voice isn't that good anyway
So all I can do is rave on

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Nazz's "A Beautiful Song" are a reflection of the desire to express love through music. The singer expresses their wanting to write and sing a beautiful song for a loved one. They envision a song so beautiful, it can make their memories sail out the window and transport them into space, where they can see all the lights of the world, and the people within it. Through the song, they hope to communicate their desire for the world to be as beautiful as the sight before them, encapsulating all their feelings of love and admiration for their loved one. However, the singer feels cynical and unable to express themselves through song, showing the limitations of their emotions and artistry.

The lyrics create a nostalgic and wistful atmosphere, with the hope that music can transport and express the deepest emotions. The repeated use of the phrase "beautiful, beautiful song" indicates both the singer's desire for beauty and their lack of confidence in achieving it. The lyrics also contain a sense of melancholy, possibly reflecting on missed opportunities or unrequited love. Overall, the song contains a yearning for beauty, love, and the power of music to convey those feelings.

Sounds like they were trying to go in a few different directions, which Toddy did consequently, but not all at the same time. His ear for tunes comes though this hotch-potch. The start of a very long parabolic curve.

First comment: Tremendous song!
