Raising rates is the medicine we need to take. The problem is that the Fed is STILL doing QE which is only offsetting the effects of the rate hikes and offsetting the QT they’ve been doing for awhile now. They don’t know wtf they’re doing.

I'm really worried about the current bank crisis. If a bank as big as SVB could fail, I fear for a lot more. I know a friend who is running a high-growth startup, and was badly hit by the bank run. The Fed should come right out and say the DOW must drop below 25000, before they will even consider leveling out interest rates. Even then, rates should stay high until prices drop 50%, to unravel the doubling of prices we've seen in the past 4 years. Raising interest rates isn't causing banking problems, those bank's lax risk management caused their own demise, betting on "green" start-up companies that are being pushed on all of us by Biden & Co. that will never be sustainable or profitable long term.

The banking problem is solved. We are going to start seeing a debt crises from all of the publicly traded companies that financed debt at zero and coming due have to roll it over at current rates. All of those stock buybacks that happened during the “good times” are going to become stock dilutions and cause earnings and share prices to plummet. All of the liquidity is being recalled to where it originated. The ones out early are the ones that will be sitting pretty.

The sole thing is that it is not banking crisis. It is crisis in a whole economy. Having to print more money means money are loosing their value. Printing machine unfortunately became a narcotic for economy covering and solving problems in economy for years but it also creates inflation that we are facing now. One way to solve is to keep interest high for say 10 years. Another way is to lower the rate and let the inflation go up. On the both ways fed must not emit ANY new money bill. Even one :) Both ways lead to decrease in economical power and basically people will become less rich...

No one expects markets to go up as QE is curtailed. At least no one that has a basic education in macro economics. Of course asset prices will have to decline as the era of free money is slowly ended. It served it's purpose by kicking the can down the road by 15 years. Now the current crop of politicians are left with making the hard cal.. Powell is doing exactly what he is supposed to be doing. He just should have done it 3 years ago. Why is Kudlow always like that? The market is 4X overpriced as EVERY diligent investor knows in high inflation the PE ratio of the S&P500 tends to around 7. When the market goes in the direction of fair value, it's good news. Stop assuming down is bad and up is good. You want higher food prices? Of course you do, if you are a food supplier. But you have to take it all from the perspective of either fair value or in how the majority of people are affected. The market should be down 5% numerous times but the Fed and US Treasury Dept keep manipulates it up which hurts the populace. It produces inflation and widens the wealth divide. The middle class should always short the market, never going long otherwise they contribute to their own demise. Ever since the middle class piled into the market the wealth divide widened. 401-1 accounts are a ruse - the middle class may focus on nominal gains but from their participation they made it worse for themselves as they experience a lower standard of living now. I'd debate anyone on this, I do not care who they are. I should be at the Hoover Institute but they choose base on nonsense.

Im curious what would happen if u limited credit to consumers, not via increased interest rates but by stricter loan conditions and if government incentivized production through what? better depreciation write offs, easier credit for business, less red tape etc Would that achieve the inflation rate of 2% quicker and for longer? PS. the interest rate should be high enough for savings, low enough for loans to businesses and should not be used to counter inflation. (interest rate should not be moving up and down, it should be set for decades to create stability) What would happen? Any bright spark out there?

Here's what gets me.. .they say we can't raise rates 20% like we did decades ago. Ok but raising them 5% sends banks off a cliff.....why?
That being the case tells me that piling on more debt is a VERY bad thing so what happens when we continue to pile on this debt n can't even raise 1%? I thin a real problem is the general lack of trust in American institutions brought on by the Covid debacle. FED argument aside when we have governments both Republican and democrat who can simply pass trillions of dollars at will, over and over, it really doesn’t matter anymore. Our fate is sealed and it’s just a matter of time now. The inevitable crash is coming and it’s gonna be a rough time to follow. Get un-leveraged folks! U got a large car payment? Get out from under it and get a reasonable and affordable car. Credit cards? Cut them up and get them paid off as soon as you can. Reduce the blow that will eventually come and your exposure to it.
