BAP using "Nordic" here not to refer to North Germanic people but to any Europeans North of the Alps it seems? I wasn't aware the term could be used in that way but he makes good points about the Ancient Roman and Greek elites having a different ethnic character to those today. Somewhat contradictory to refer to the darker ones as aborigines while also invoking the Ottomans as the source of ethnic change in the region - I think, based on the actual DNA evidence I have looked at, the Ottomans had a minimal influence on Greece and the Balkans and that the ethnic change was just a return to normalcy for the region. The Neolithic inhabitants of Greece were very similar to the ones now and the average Bronze Age Greek was much like the average modern Greek - the reason blondism and traits we associate with Nordic types were then associated with the elites and with the gods is not necessarily because the elites were genetically like modern Nordic people, but because the initial invasions of more Northerly Proto-Greek speakers who actually brought Greek gods and language in, also brought such phenotypes in, and these were preserved among an elite through selective breeding until class distinctions altered and the elite became phenotypically indistinguishable from the commoners. One shouldn't confuse the presence of blondism with the presence of Nordics though - a blonde Greek today is genetically a Med, and a black haired Swede is genetically Nordic.

Instead of talking of pigmentation, which is not so important, look at facial and skull structure. Romans and Greeks had S. European facial features. Simple. Larger eyes, more prominent nose, etc.

Many idiots do not understand that pigmentation is not a race, and when describing people it is specifically the least common qualities that are noted. A man's medium blonde hair would not be noted in Norway, it would be in North Africa. Simple.

Also, Greeks even post-200BC did pretty ok for themselves, they gave many prominent scholars and artists during Roman times and they kept the Roman empire going for another 1000 years, at the end of it helping to launch Renaissance no less. I would say their current backwardness is the result of Ottoman occupation, they might still surprise us in the future.
Regarding Rome, Roman authors specifically mention that Romans are not as blonde as Gauls or Germans. Also, some of the greatest Roman emperors were Spaniards (Hadrian and Trajan) or Illyrians (Aurelian, Diocletian and Constantine). The greatest of Romans, Julius Cesar, was neither blonde nor blue eyed.

Your dismissal of national myth and unexplained disdain for Greeks using Greek names (as if bloodline divergence means a people must give up the names of their language), also DNA tests of ancient corpses' teeth shows similarity to modern Greeks which you ignore strikes me as bizarre. I'm fully Greek and have blue eyes and very light skin, then there's Greeks who are very tan (most of them are descendants of 20th century refugees from the 2nd Greco-Turkish war since our population exchange doubled the population), it's not impossible to imagine ancient Greeks who were the result of various migrations also had people who were very tan and people who were lighter.

While I have nothing against this character, regarding him as a fellow traveller of sorts, would I be remiss to suggest that perhaps he should tone it down with the Nordicism? As many of the commenters here have mentioned, the patrician classes of Greece and Rome were less about pigment, and more about physiognomy, spirit, psychology, and bone structure. What is Nordicism then but a peasant's attempt to lay some claim to a caste with which he has nothing in common but the color of his skin? Classical sources are quite clear in delineating differences between the plebs, Asian/African migrants, patricians, AND northern barbarians, who were considered just as base as the other, lesser groups. Indeed, if one were to venture into Italy today and study the supposed remnants of the Mediterranean aristocracy, he would notice that spirit is often sacrificed for the sake of cosmetic opportunism! Such is the myopia of Nordicism and its related, distinctly MODERN schools of thought. Not to mention, of course, the distinctly Semitic twang to BAP's voice-- perhaps he could be the next Woody Allen? I wonder...

As much as I like BAP he does show a deep lack of knowledge of populational genetics and human migrations, not to mention two main facts: phenotypes can swiftly change between 2 generations (meaning your supposed "aryan" look can come from simply having a parent with those phenotypical characteristics) while genotype, your deep ancestry, has almost zero to do with your superficial looks.
That combined with the 2000's racialist tropes, memes and language just make him sound like someone stuck in a pretty outdated and factually incorrect mindset.
Again, a big fan of his intellectualism, it's just deeply flawed in some of his stances (universalist vs exclusivist perspective, pseudo-aryanism, etc).

There were essentially two ethnicities in Ancient Greece as they themselves understood: Ionians and Dorians. The Pelasgians had inhabited the area prior to the invasions from the north. The Dorians looked Nordic, the Ionians were a mix of Pelasgians and more Nordic looking people. This can easily be seen in art. Look at “the stag hunt mosaic” from Pella and tell me that these people look like modern Greeks. They simply do not. Modern Greeks are completely mixed Levantine Christians and North African Christians as evidenced by their haplogroups and physical appearance. A rough estimate is that 10 % of modern Greeks are white and thus direct defendants of the great ancients. They miscegenated themselves out of existence. A shame.

@John Victor England Literally every South Slav in the Balkans has a lot more ancient blood compared to Slavic blood. Just look at a Balkan Slav and compare him to Slavs proper in the East of Europe. Not to mention that a small elite could impose their culture and language over a subjugated population, much like the Indo-Europeans did in the Balkans, and would explain a higher EEF admixture in the South compared to the North of Europe, despite the cultures in both regions being Indo-European, even linguistically Indo-European. Culturally Slavic, genetically less of a Slav, that would be like saying that modern day Egyptians have little to no connection to the Ancient Egyptian population solely because they speak Arabic and have an imposed Arabic culture.

"Nordic" doesnt mean anything, a cardinal direction is not a race. Greeks were more white in the past but not by a huge degree and they never looked like english or scandinavians at all
