Mother
The Night VI Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

She cradled my heartache
Like it was her own,
She held me close
With her arms aglow,
A harmless creature
The only one I know,
A harmless creature
The only one I know,
Her voice softens
As the tears grace my face,
Fall my angel
With only the wonders
Of her pain to taste,
Mother of this land
Keeper of this earth,
Always looking out for something beautiful,
mother of this land
Keeper of this earth
Always looking out for something beautiful,
To put me in my place
Some kind of Spring is in the air,
Reminded me of times when things were fair,
Oh how these streets show me what's where,
As history repeats it's in the air,
Her voice softens
As the tears grace my face
Fall my angel
With only the wonders
Of her pain to taste
Mother of this land
Keeper of this earth
Always looking out for something beautiful
Mother of this land
Keeper of this earth
Always looking out for something beautiful
To put me in my place
To keep me in my place
Ohh that day will come,
So I'll keep holding on,
And though this day is done,
To all that I'll become,
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Mother of this land,

Keeper of this earth,
Always looking out for something beautiful

Overall Meaning

The Night VI's song Mother seems to be a tribute to the unconditional love and support of a mother figure. The lyrics poetically depict the nurturing nature of a mother who cradles the singer's heartache like it's her own, and holds them in a warm embrace. The mother is portrayed as a harmless creature, someone who is gentle and kind, and the only one the singer knows who possesses this quality.

As the song progresses, we see the mother figure soothing the singer's pain with her soft voice and gentle tears. She is described as the mother of the land, the keeper of the earth, and constantly looking out for something beautiful. She seems to be a spiritual and nurturing figure, reminding the singer that there is still beauty in the world, even amidst their pain.

The song also touches on the idea that history repeats itself, but through the lens of the mother's love and care, the singer learns to find hope in the future. The song ends with a sense of resilience and determination, as the singer vows to keep holding on and becoming their best self.

Wonderful... The two female singers complement each other perfectly. It reminds me of the folk music of the 60's & 70's... It's got real heart, and "feel" ;) And it's a wonder to not see female singers - in this day and age - relying on their sex-appeal to "sell" themselves. This is the kind of music I hope my daughters choose to get into ;)
