God's Hands
The Oak Ridge Boys Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

God's hands made the earth and everything
God's hands made the flowers and the birds that sing
God's hands made the mountains and ev-e-ry tree
From a handful of love God made even me

God's hands hold the waters and make them flow
God's hands hold the seasons from the springtime to snow
His hands hold our life span from cradle to grave
These same hands nailed at Calvary hold power to save

God's hands rule the heavens and the vast universe
He has power to bless and power to curse

His hands lifted me out of sin from all sin
He has now blessed my way God's hands leadeth me

Overall Meaning

The Oak Ridge Boys's song "God's Hands" is a powerful tribute to the divine power that created and sustains the world. The lyrics draw attention to the beauty and complexity of nature, highlighting God's ability to craft everything from the flowers to the mountains. The song conveys a sense of awe and wonder at the magnificence of creation and the role that God plays in it.

In the first verse, the lyrics speak of God's hands crafting the earth and everything on it, including the birds and the trees. From this, the song moves on to the idea that God's hands exert control over the natural world. They hold the waters and the seasons, and even our lives from birth to death. However, the song also makes a connection between God's power over nature and his power to save humanity. The same hands that helped create the world were also those that were nailed to the cross at Calvary.

The final verse of the song is a personal reflection from the singer. He speaks of how God's hands lifted him out of sin and how he now feels guided and blessed by God's grace. This is where the power of the song lies - while it acknowledges the colossal scale of the universe and the might of the divine, it also speaks to the ways in which God can affect individual lives in a profound and positive way.

on King Jesus

There are rumors that this was created in a recording studio. I think it's possible, but I can remember buying the album in 1974 just to listen to the live version of King Jesus. I still have the album after 50 years. Ahh, you're in store for a great singin' tonight. . . is a precious memory I have of that album.
