Girl
The Osmonds Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey, Girl! I want you to know,
I'm gonna miss you so much if you go.
And, Hey, Girl! I tell you no lie,
Something deep inside of me's going to die,
if you say so long, if this is goodbye. Oh!

Hey, Girl! This can't be true,
How am I supposed to exist without you?
And, Hey, Girl! Now don't put me on,
What's gonna happen to me when you're gone.
How will I live. How can I go on.
How can I go on? Hey, Girl!

Hey, Girl! Now sit yourself down,
I'm not ashamed to get down on the ground,

Don't go away. Hey, Girl!
Don't go away. Hey, Girl!

Overall Meaning

The Osmonds's song Hey Girl is a heartfelt plea to a lover not to leave. The lyrics are filled with sadness, desperation, and fear, as the singer tries to convince the girl to stay. The song starts with the singer telling the girl how deeply he will miss her if she leaves. He also acknowledges that something deep inside of him will die if she says her goodbyes. The emotions are raw and genuine, and the lyrics are very relatable to anyone who has experienced heartbreak and loss.

The second verse of the song continues the theme of desperation, with the singer asking how he is supposed to exist without the girl. He expresses his fear of living without her and not being able to go on. The repetition of the phrase "Hey, girl" throughout the song adds to the urgency of the plea, and the final lines of the song see the singer begging the girl not to go away.

Overall, Hey Girl is a beautiful and poignant love song that captures the feeling of heartbreak and loss perfectly. The lyrics are simple yet effective, and the emotions behind them are very real.

A brilliant song! Takes me right back to the 70's.

I agree with the thought that this entire Crazy Horses album actually was the Osmonds "Sgt. Pepper's" album. The Osmonds always used a lot of brass and strings in their music, and this album reveals a very definite Lennon-McCartney influence. I'm actually shocked that no one anywhere has posted the original version of Hold Her Tight from this album. The studio version of that tune is the definitive peformance of it.

Merrill had the best rock voice ever! Yes, this song is Beatlesque (basically “Come Together”) but cares? It’s really well arranged and produced!

Different sound for the boys. Love it.

@Posttrip

He really had a great singing voice for rock n roll. I’m sure, today, the Osmond Brothers would be trashed and dismissed. HOWEVER, They truly were a great sound and Uber talented. I’m collecting, (hearing most of their songs for the first time) their albums and count them in the golden era of rock.
