Medicine
The Pale White Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Rewind, let's take it back a second
We side off in a picture with grey ink and a knife
These scars are deep enough to see for miles
My oh my
Maybe I've been here before without you
Or maybe it's a heavy dose of deja vu
Maybe I've been here before without you, without you
Give me that medicine
What a waste to suck that sedative
There's no taste, there's no taste
Daylight feels like a burden
Got my eyes tight
Just like that belt around my chest in the night
I must've really done it this time
Oh no, my oh my
Maybe I've been here before without you
Or maybe it's a heavy dose of deja vu
Maybe I've been here before without you, without you
Give me that medicine
What a waste to suck that sedative
There's no taste, there's no taste
You need to understand
It is my only friend
Maybe I've been here before without you
Maybe I've been here before without you, without you
Give me that medicine
What a waste to suck that sedative
There's no taste, there's no taste
Give me that medicine

What a waste to suck that sedative
There's no taste, there's no taste

Overall Meaning

The Pale White's song "Medicine" explores the dark and destructive nature of addiction. The opening lines, "Rewind, let's take it back a second / We side off in a picture with grey ink and a knife" suggest a desire to relive a past experience in which the singer may have engaged in self-harm. The scars that remain from this experience are described as "deep enough to see for miles," highlighting the lasting consequences of addiction.

Throughout the song, the singer expresses a need for their "medicine," or drug of choice, even though they recognize it as a "waste" and lacking in taste. The lines "Daylight feels like a burden / Got my eyes tight" convey the despair and hopelessness that can be associated with addiction, as well as the physical and emotional toll it takes on the body.

The repeated line "Maybe I've been here before without you" suggests that the singer has struggled with addiction in the past and may have attempted to overcome it without the help of others. However, the line "You need to understand / It is my only friend" implies that the singer may view their addiction as a coping mechanism or source of comfort. Overall, the lyrics of "Medicine" offer a poignant and honest portrayal of addiction and its effects.

That drummer is absolutely top notch, what a great song!

@Rustykou

No one is going to talk about how on point the drummer is, he reminded me a lot of early Dave Grohl with his passion and fills.

@danbeegan6482

saw them last night, drummer was quality

@Mr-E.

This song has that melancholy power chord grungy vibe of the 90s, but has the experimental nuances of Incubus. Especially the 1:12 to 1:18 Oooohh ooohh part reminds me of something Brandon Boyd would have done... same with 3:12
