Dogs
The Reason Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oh it's cold
Huddled beside you
There's no way out now
We're here and we're not certain how
Don't you feel the bass in the back of you throat?
If you listen to the way they're just so stoked

If you don't think we should stay, we should go home
Because you've got nothing to say
And this place reeks of no fun
If you don't think we should stay, we should go home
Home.

She's on fire
As I hung back, loose with the liars
They're like dogs
Panting and dragging their tongues
But that isn't the way that I roll
I'm so tired of this place, what we gonna do?

If you don't think we should stay, we should go home
If you don't think we should stay, we should go home
Because you've got nothing to say
This is lame, this is no fun
If you don't think we should stay, lets just leave
Lets just go home

If you don't think we should stay, we should go home
Home

Overall Meaning

The Reason's song Dogs talks about the feeling of being trapped in a situation that you don't enjoy. The lyrics "There's no way out now, we're here and we're not certain how" convey the sense of being stuck in a place that you don't want to be in. The song takes on a more critical tone towards the environment that they find themselves in with lyrics such as "This place reeks of no fun" and "This is lame". The imagery of dogs panting and dragging their tongues is used to describe the people they are surrounded by and the feeling of being suffocated by the energy of that group.

The chorus of the song is a call to action, a feeling of restlessness that needs to be acted upon. The repetition of the phrase "If you don't think we should stay, we should go home" reinforces this message throughout the song. The lyrics also suggest a need for action and movement, "lets just leave, lets just go home." This idea of taking action to remove oneself from an unenjoyable situation is a sentiment that many people can relate to.

Overall, Dogs is a song that speaks to the feeling of being trapped in a situation that you don't enjoy and the need to take action to remove oneself from that situation. The critical tone of the lyrics towards those around them elevates the importance of being in spaces and with people that make you happy.

#13: Showing Empathy
TLDR at end

My mom’s dog is extremely empathetic. I remember going outside when it was pouring outside and when I came back in soaked, he started trying to dry himself off (whenever he gets really wet, he tries to dry himself off with any blanket nearby. There’s one hanging off a leg rest—because my cat likes to poke my legs through the cracks—he tends to use. He does this before we can properly dry him with a towel...)

TLDR: Whenever he sees someone wet, he feels like he needs to get dry too. He’s feeling the discomfort that comes with being soaked as if it were his own, thus displaying empathy.

I like using this anecdote (along with scientific research, of course) to argue why animals feel emotions...because so many people still refuse the evidence...

It's my dog he thinks he's an elephant. He'll do anything for peanuts. He knocks over my beer with his tail and then drinks it.
Then he wants beer nuts.

This is so interesting!! Thanks so much for sharing this vlog!

First time I heard the north/south axis theory, I started to pay more attention to which direction they faced when they were pooping. My dogs are more concerned about finding the proper spot of grass to poop on and don't seem to care about which way they faced.

@LikePhoenixFromAshes

I've watched my own dog and about dozen of neighbors ones and I call total BS on that magnetic axis theory. Every and each dog had their poop spots, but they did not care about positioning themselves at all, more like whatever position was comfy, was good enough. Each spot has it's position, but each spot's position is different.

I love these videos. I’ve been a dog owner my entire life ( well raised with them ) some of these are things I’ve wondered “why” they do that..... thanks for the answers and all the great tips!

@tanisharajput7213

I still recall that moment when my dog stopped eating for a week he started to feel so lonely, sad and without any zeal. I took him to the vet twice but the vet told that he is completely okay. Just after a week my father died. And this thing he felt it before... Animals are so sensitive and they have special abilities to sense things which we can't.
