2) The Rebels were a 60's garage rock band from Iran.
Before Prince formed The Time, he considered using his backing band as a side-project called The Rebels. The 1979 project was a group effort, with songs being written and sung by the various members. Andre Cymone and Dez Dickerson each contributed material and a few numbers were sung by Gayle Chapman. The project was eventually shelved but two of the songs composed by Prince were re-recorded and released much later: "If I Love U 2 Night" by Mica Paris (and later by Prince's wife-to-be Mayte Garcia) and "U" by Paula Abdul. The original Prince guide vocal for "If I Love U 2 Nite" appeared by mistake on the rare Mica Paris 'Stand For Love' EP, of which only a handful exist.

And my exes wish I was
But that don't bring me down
Cuz I'm far too curious
Curious about cousin
What's going down
Curious about cousin
What's it mean now
Doing what we been doing
I'm just so curious to see if it's
Boom or ruin
Life life life
Life life life
Such is life such is life
Such is
All my first friends are dead
And my exes wish I was
But that won't bring me down
I'm far too curious
Curious about cousin
What's going down
Curious about cousin
What's happening now
What's it mean to be a
Human being
Doing what we been
Been on doing
Feels like we're stealing
Stealing from something that
Leads to ruin
Ruin
This is life life life
Life
My exes don't live in Texas, but
You wanna know what life's about
You wanna understand what's all around you
Such is life or so they say you gotta
Keep pushing for the fortune and fame you wanna
Make sure you got yourself on the right train
To stay in the same lane
Don't glitch the mainframe
Take yourself down to Houston or Austin
When you really wanna settle down in Boston
Maybe end up in San Anton
Lose your kids, wife, and house
Work your fingers to the bone
I wanna skip all the pain and woe
Turn myself a real boy like Pinocchio
I wanna join this thing you call life
Wanna sit on a beach in the quays drinking Mai Tais
Ain't got a cricket on my shoulder
Don't feel any wiser
Just a little older
What's the meaning of being a human being when
All we can see is stealing what we're stealing and
Every time you walk down the street
You gotta deal with the pain
In the people that you're meeting
Struggling to shuffle in their feet and
Walking past the people see them greet and
Bear false witness to the witless
of a god who didn't want this
And probably feels daunted
By the the ways of those he made
to drag his name into the grave
Because he may have gave a saviour
But that won't change our behaviour
What is life
Such is life
All my first friends are dead
And my exes wish I was
But that won't bring me down
Cuz I'm far too curious
Curious about cousin
What's going down
Curious about cousin
What's happening now
What's it mean to be a human being
If doing what we're doing
Is stealing what we're stealing
What's going down now
What's going down right now
Is it ruin
Life life life
Such is life such is life such is life
Life life life
Such is life such is life such is life
The lyrics to The RebelS's song "Life in 4" delve deep into themes of mortality, curiosity, self-reflection, and the struggle to find meaning in life. The singer begins by reflecting on the loss of their first friends and the lingering envy of their exes, but they declare that these circumstances will not dampen their spirit because they are driven by an insatiable curiosity. This curiosity extends to pondering the essence of being human amidst the chaos and uncertainty of existence, questioning whether their actions are leading to prosperity or downfall.
As the lyrics progress, the singer continues to express their curiosity about the state of the world, their relationships, and the purpose of their actions. There is a sense of urgency in their words as they grapple with the idea of living authentically in a world that often feels like a cycle of repetition and potential ruin. The repetition of "Life life life" reinforces the idea that life is an ongoing journey filled with both challenges and opportunities for growth.
The mention of exes not living in Texas serves as a metaphor for the singer's desire to understand the true nature of life and the world around them. They express a yearning for clarity and a sense of direction, emphasizing the importance of staying true to oneself and pursuing one's passions despite the uncertainties that may lie ahead. The imagery of settling down in different cities and the desire to escape pain and sorrow highlight the universal longing for peace and fulfillment.
The lyrics culminate in a reflection on the complexity of human existence, the struggles we face, and the ways in which we interact with one another. The singer acknowledges the challenges of navigating life's obstacles and the burden of carrying both personal and societal expectations. There is a sense of resignation mixed with a hint of hope as they contemplate the meaning of life and our collective humanity, ultimately leaving the listener with lingering questions about the nature of existence and the choices we make. The repeated refrain of "Life life life, Such is life such is life" serves as a poignant reminder of the cyclical nature of life and the dualities we must confront in our journey towards understanding ourselves and the world around us.
