We could talk it out over a cup of Joe
And you can look deep in my eyes
Like I was a super-model
Uh huh
Well, it's just you and me baby
No one else we can trust
No how or we'll bust
Never crack a smile or flinch or cry
For nobody
Uh huh
So give you ID card to the border guard
Your alias says you Captain John Luke Picard
Of the United Federation of Planets
'Cause they won't speak English any ways
Everybody knows that the world is full of stupid people
So meet me at the mission at midnight
We'll divy up there
Everybody knows that the world is full of stupid people
So I got the pistol
So I get the Pesos
Yeah that seems fair
We'll put the sugar in the tank of the sheriff's car
We'll slash the deputy's tires
They won't get very far
When they finally get the word that there's been a hold-up
Uh huh
Everybody knows that the world is full of stupid people
So meet me at the mission at midnight
We'll divy up there
Everybody knows that the world is full of stupid people
But I got the pistol
So I get the Pesos
Yeah that seems fair
That seems fair
That seems fair
That seems fair yeah yeah
So give you ID card to the border guard
Now alias says you Captain John Luke Picard
Of the United Federation of Planets
'Cause they won't speak English any ways
Everybody knows that the world is full of stupid people
So meet me at the mission at midnight
We'll divy up there
But everybody knows that the world is full of stupid people
Well, I got the pistol
So I get the Pesos
Yeah that seems fair
That seems fair
And that seems fair
That seems fair
The Refreshments’ catchy song “Banditos” is filled with fun and playful lyrics that paint a vivid picture of a daring heist. The song starts with a question to the listener, “Just how far down do you wanna go?,” before inviting them to share a cup of Joe and stare deep into the singer's eyes. The lyrics then present an imaginary scenario featuring a daring robbery, with two people who don't trust anyone else but themselves. The song is full of amusing imagery, such as using an alias "Captain John Luke Picard," the singer of the popular TV show "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and using a pistol to get their share of the loot. The chorus reminds us that the world is full of stupid people, suggesting that the two friends are the only ones smart enough to pull off a successful heist.
The song's lyrics reflect a fantasy escapism, a desire for control, and longing for autonomy. The song expresses rebellion without any real consequences, and a rejection of the societal norms that restrain individual freedom. The two banditos describe the conventional world as "Full of stupid people," suggesting that their way of life is superior to the "normal" one. “Banditos” is a celebration of the fantasy and the rebellious spirit that resides within everyone, calling for everyone to break away from the ordinary and join the banditos' way of life.
