I’m 24 and was not even a thought when this song was written but it has always been one of my favourite all time songs for the same reasons. I was 15 when I first heard this song and it immediately resonated with me, coming from a broken home and having debilitating depression. Paul is my voice, two generations later!

The band that saved my life. I remember my father passing away from suicide back in 2013 and here’s a 20-year-old kid not knowing what else to do in my life and even contemplated suicide. I had no girlfriend no band and I just lost my father... and a long comes this band that I discover. And then I realized there’s a lot more worth living. To pull through and create gorgeous music such as this. I am in debt to this band for life.

Sadly, Paul said in an interview that he didn't really feel unsatisfactory during those times when he wrote this, saying it was only for the sake of a song, an act. It almost ruined it for me because this is one of my favourite ever.

My high school substitute teacher showed me this when he heard me play this charming man on guitar, this was around 2010-2011 :) he said check these guys out . I then began to learn the song , great chords in there . Good times , now I’m 26 and I’m making my own album for the first time and I couldn’t be more stoked than ever . A doomed band that managed to create some fantastic songs. This was probably their best piece; putting across a mood/feeling that is almost impossible to articulate. It's their passion that really shines through, helped along with a great hook and perfectly fitting production. As good as it gets.

My father showed me this band almost 10 years ago when I was maybe 12 or 13. He played me "Bastards of Young" and told me that one day I would understand the Replacements. It only took me about a year from then for me to start listening to them, and till this day they are the only band from my youth who I still enjoy and relate to as much as I did when I first started listening to them. I asked Paul Westerberg if he would be playing this tune at a 1985 gig in Vancouver as I had just entered into the incredible heartbreak of a devastating breakup. I didn't immediately mention the breakup and, he grabbed my shoulder and told me, "Sorry buddy...that one stings too much"

I always listen to this track or other recordings of it whenever I feel unsatisfied with myself. The instrumentation uplifts and motivates me, then the vocals are the icing on top of the whole masterpiece. The Replacements really had a way of attaching you to their music emotionally.

This song always hits too close to home, but listening to it while the pandemic and the George Floyd incident, it's revealing. Our generation (I'm 26 right now) grew in a world where life, democracy and a lot of values were considered a formality after centuries of wars and destruction. But it's never truly been that way as we can see it. "Everything you dreamed of is right in front of you, and everything is lie". Brilliant song.

I discovered them through Tim (always seeing it ranked in different lists). I’m a huge rock consumer but here in Uruguay Replacements where absolutely unknown. You wouldnt find a single record. I fell in love with that record and bought from abroad Let It Be. Listening through it for the first time, just me and the music, no lights but the one in the compact player. And there it came Unsatisfied. Never in my life did i connect so deeply with a song in a first hearing (not even with Stairway to heaven, A Day in the Life or any of the classics). By the end of the tune i was standing in the dark, singing to the top of my voice “ Im so unsatisfied!”. Never felt something like that with music.

I dubbed this album from my brother when I was 14 and forgot to break off the recording tabs.

Awhile later a group of us, including an old girlfriend, were drinking beers around campfire and I accidentally hit "record" instead of "play". The guitar at the beginning of the song can be heard in the background of us talking--almost as if planned. 30 years later I still think of that night, that summer, and that girl when I hear this song. 1984, aside from being held as a checkpoint for our dystopian, paternalistic vector as a society, was actually a very very very special year for music. The Police broke up, Husker Du released the archetypal Zen Arcade, Prince released the timeless Purple Rain, and the Mats released this brilliant gem. 84 is rarely talked about these days but, it will remain, just below the surface, if anyone cares to look. This was the last song they played at Austin City Limits last weekend, which might be their last performance. Paul picked it right at the end. Made me wonder if he doubted the Replacements had given us everything we expected, and whether, at the end of the road, they were satisfied.

As a Atheist who feels great discrimination, even today, I feel worse now. I proved god doesn't exist or that the bible is harmful when taken literally and that Jesus got the matches and I am flammable because a good life means nothing .. just have to believe is a guy where there is no proof of him .. nothing outside the bible, and he never said "no slaves". I would rather be tortured by Dahmer than Jesus .. cause that is everlasting.

Didn't realize this until today that this song makes an appearance in the movie "Airheads' a movie that has an amazing cast Brendan Fraser, Steve Buscemi, and Adam Sandler. How I LOVE this song and the film as well, makes the movie and song EPIC. Full of nostalgia.
