1.) The Rev was an 80's UK spoken-word group known currently for their only two releases "Tiny, Tinny Radio" and "A Thin Grey Space". These tunes appeared on the 1987 compilation "Paper Boats In Puddles" which was distributed by Whizz Records. Members of The Rev later moved on to become part of the popular group Frazier Chorus.
2.) The Rev (born James “Jimmy” Owen Sullivan on February 9 1981- December 28 2009), short for The Reverend Tholomew Plague was the drummer of Avenged Sevenfold, a heavy metal band.
At the age of 3 The Rev got his own drum set. The Rev attended a Catholic school with A7X lead singer M. Shadows, but was expelled in the 3rd grade. The Rev spent a lot of time as a teen living in a laundromat and was in and out of homes. His first record was released at the age of 18. He maintains a presence in the side project Pinkly Smooth with fellow Avenged Sevenfold guitarist Synyster Gates, as well as parts of surf-punk band Ballistico. He has also played piano for the band on “Warmness On The Soul”.
He was also formerly the drummer for third-wave ska band Suburban Legends, along with former Avenged Sevenfold bassist Justin Meacham (not associated with Anti-Flag).
On the new A7X DVD while discussing how each member got their stage names, it was stated that Sullivan attained his name via a shortened version of The Reverend Tholomew Plague. The decision was seemingly random, as there were no specific reasons stated as to the inspiration for the name. He had a tendency to wear eccentric outfits such as outrageously colored kimonos.
Some of his favorite bands are Rancid, The Transplants and Slayer. Sullivan cites his influences as being Vinnie Paul of Pantera, Dave Lombardo and Paul Bostaph of Slayer, and Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater.
Sullivan uses and is sponsored by DW Drums, although he appears in advertisements for DW’s budget company, PDP. He is also sponsored by Sabian cymbals, Pro-Mark sticks and Evans drum heads.
Recognized for vocals in side project Pinkly Smooth, Sullivan is utilized as a back-up vocalist in Avenged Sevenfold, primarily for live screams in songs such as Eternal Rest. The upcoming single from the band’s upcoming eponymous album, Critical Acclaim features Sullivan at lead vocals during the chorus of the song, both singing and screaming. He also use his vocals in another songs from the Avenged Sevenfold eponymous, mainly screaming.
The Rev is also featured in the song “A Little Piece of Heaven” (which was written by him) singing, laughing and screaming a little bit.
The Rev was found dead at his home in Huntington Beach, California Monday December 28, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Orange County Coroners office are investigating Jimmy Sullivan’s passing. It is believed that he died of a drug overdose.
Haunted
The Rev Lyrics

But the clouds against the sky
Betray the features of her face
And the blue that was in her eyes
The setting sun is a ticking clock
And the hour is drawing near
When darkness falls I hear her call
Lock the doors and shutter the windows
Drowning my fear in my drink
Do I hear footsteps or is that the drip-drip-drip of a leaky sink?
I am haunted
I am haunted
I peer outside and my eyes play tricks
As she dances in the mist
Another sip and I feel the burn
Of the lips that I once kissed
It’s a woeful song she’s crying
And my ears can’t stand the sound
One more look and I’m certain now
She doesn’t touch the ground
Consequences of my calling, I never understood
I can’t put the genie back in the bottle but would I if I could?
I am haunted
I am haunted
I drew her a heart on a foggy window
I carved our initials in a willow tree
I floated her a love letter in a bottle
I want my baby back home with me
Mummified in sheets I’m hiding
I still feel the chill in my bones
She floats above me but she’ll never love me so why won’t she leave me alone?
I am haunted
I am haunted
The lyrics in The Rev's song "Haunted" depict a sense of longing and fear, as the singer is haunted by the presence of a lost love. The opening lines suggest that the daylight offers a temporary respite from the haunting, but the clouds in the sky reveal the memories of the person's face and the blue eyes that once held significance. The setting sun symbolizes the passage of time, and with darkness comes the anticipation of the haunting presence. The singer seeks solace in alcohol, trying to drown their fear, yet they are constantly on edge, unsure if the sounds they hear are real or mere illusions.
The second verse describes the singer peering outside and seeing their lost love dancing in the mist, which takes a toll on their emotions. The burning sensation from the lips they once kissed alludes to both emotional and physical pain. The haunting song she cries is unbearable to the singer's ears, and upon closer observation, they realize she no longer touches the ground, suggesting a ghostly presence.
The final verse explores the consequences of the singer's actions, implying that they were somehow responsible for the haunting. They express regret but acknowledge the impossibility of undoing what has been done. The singer reminisces about the romantic gestures they made, such as drawing a heart on a foggy window, carving their initials on a willow tree, and sending a love letter in a bottle. Despite their efforts, they find themselves trapped and hiding under the sheets, feeling the ghostly chill in their bones. The haunting presence continues to torment them, refusing to leave or reciprocate their love.
