(2) The Revelers was a rock band from Cleveland, Ohio (and briefly New York City) during the years 1989-1999. The band -- which featured a lineup of singer/guitarists Andrej Cuturic and Joel Kaufman, drummer Tommy Fox (formerly of Cleveland's legendary The Mice), and a string of bassists (including Rick Brom, Matt Charboneau, and George Frank) -- performed an energetic brand of rock music molded after the work of artists like the Who and Elvis Costello. After quickly gaining a considerable reputation as a live act, the group self-released a number of singles and albums. In 1998, they signed to New York City's Spin Art label, also home to artists such as the Apples in Stereo and Frank Black and the Catholics. 1998 saw the release of Hard Times, Sunday Spirits, an album that many consider to be the band's finest moment. The group then disbanded after releasing the album Day In Day Out the following year.
(3) The Revelers are a successful and regionally popular Cajun band. They were founded in 2010, featuring members of the Red Stick Ramblers and Pine Leaf Boys, and released their first album in 2012. They were nominated for a Grammy in the roots category in 2016, for their album Get Ready.
Show Me the Way to Go Home
The Revelers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Singing all the while
I don′t need no party den
To show me how to whine, not me!
When I've been out on the street
Coming down the street
With this little melody
Show me the way to go home
I'm tired and I want to go to bed
I had a little drink about an hour ago
And it′s gone right to my head
Wherever I may roam
Over land or sea or foam
You can always hear me singing this song
Show me the way to go home.
Oh, we won′t go home until morning
Won't go home until morning
Won′t go home until morning
Hold me up I'm falling down
(Hold him up he′s falling down)
Always fair weather
Sweet Angeline (sweet Angeline)
My Angeline (my Angeline)
Steppin' on a dark step all night long
Gee, gosh, ain′t it cold! Brrr!
Old King Cole was a merry old soul
And a merry old soul was he;
He called for his wine, and he called for his pipe
And he called for his fiddlers three.
When they had a high old time
All the whole night through
What was it that King Cole said,
(And his fiddlers too):
Show me the way to go home
I'm tired and I want to go to bed
I had a little drink about an hour ago
And it's gone right to my head (I′m dizzy)
Wherever I may roam
Over land or sea or foam
You can always hear me singing this song
Show me the way to go home.
Show me the way to go home
I′m tired and I want to go to bed
I had a little drink about an hour ago
And it's gone right to my head
Wherever I may roam
Over land or sea or foam
You can always hear me singing this song
Show me the way to go home!
Won′t go home until morning...
Morning...!
The Revelers' song, "Show Me The Way To Go Home," is a lively tune that captures the essence of a good time out with friends. The song speaks to the feeling of wanting to go back home after a night of revelry, as evidenced in the chorus, "Show me the way to go home, I'm tired and I want to go to bed. I had a little drink about an hour ago, and it's gone right to my head. Wherever I may roam over land or sea or foam, you can always hear me singing this song, show me the way to go home."
The lyrics speak to the idea of not needing to be shown how to have a good time and "whine" because the singer is already happy and content. However, they still find themselves singing this little melody when they've been out on the street, and everyone they greet knows the tune. The song also references the story of Old King Cole and his merry fiddlers, who asked the same question of "show me the way to go home" when they had a high old time all night through.
Overall, the song is a cheerful and upbeat tune that captures the joys of camaraderie, good times, and the simple desire to go back home after a fun night out.
