You could say The Revue began with a Facebook chat between songwriter and vocalist Brian Kapler from Island Def Jam signed band Permanent Me and Rob Rudkin, a talented drummer from Long Island. But in reality, the site where time goes to die was only responsible for physically bringing them together. The seed for The Revue had been germinating for a long time before that and it was only a matter of time before this foursome joined forces to create a catchy pop sound with a soulful twist.
The band members’ paths crossed at times at Long Island shows but it was their separate experiences and personal growths that really brought them together as star-crossed musicians in October 2010.
Kapler toured extensively around the U.S. and Canada with Permanent Me playing numerous dates with bands like Fall Out Boy and New Found Glory. When the band disbanded in 2008, he took some time out, dabbling with other bands, but mostly focusing on finding himself.
“It wasn’t until recently that I found a sound I wanted to move forward with,” he said. “And once I found that, I wanted to get other musicians together to make it happen and get different musical perspectives.”
And different perspectives he received. While Kapler was touring the U.S. with Permanent Me, Matt McAuliffe and Anthony Polzella , who can usually be spotted in a Rolling Stones t-shirt, had a world of experience all their own. For the past three years, both McAuliffe and Polzella have been in the band Ready Jet. They’ve played around New York City and Long Island and released a 9-song E.P. At the same time, Rudkin was completing a master’s degree in business, while playing around Long Island with local bands.
Talent and fate combined to bring the four of them together at just the right time in their lives. But their collaboration is no coincidence. It was only possible after each musician found their own sound through their own experiences. And now, with The Revue, it’s more about getting back to basics in order to move forward.
“We’ve come together to begin a new chapter in our musical careers,” said Rob while reclining on the sofa and stuffing an 80’s styled pillow under his neck. “We’re going to collaborate on new ideas and record as soon as we can.”
The Revue's self titled E.P. will be released on iTunes and at their website therevue.bandcamp.com on June 7th!

Can't you see the sunshine?
Can't you just feel the moonshine?
Ain't it just like a friend of mine
To hit me from behind?
Yes, I'm gone to Carolina in my mind
Karin, she's a silver sun
And watch her watch the morning come
A silver tear appearing now
I'm cryin', ain't I?
Gone to Carolina in my mind
There ain't no doubt in no ones mind
That love's the finest thing around
Whisper something soft and kind
And hey babe, the sky's on fire
I'm dying, ain't I?
Gone to Carolina in my mind
In my mind I'm gone to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine?
Can't you just feel the moonshine?
And, ain't it just like a friend of mine
To hit me from behind?
Yes, I'm gone to Carolina in my mind
Dark and silent, late last night,
I think I might have heard the highway call
And geese in flight and dogs that bite
The signs that might be omens say
I'm goin', I'm goin'
I'm gone to Carolina in my mind
With a holy host of others standin' around me
Still I'm on the dark side of the moon
And it seems like it goes on like this forever
You must forgive me, if I'm up and gone to
Carolina in my mind
In my mind I'm goin' to Carolina
Can't you see the sunshine?
Can't you just feel the moonshine?
Ain't is just like a friend of mine
To hit me from behind
Yes, I'm gone to Carolina in my mind
Gone to Carolina in my mind
And I'm goin' to Carolina in my mind
Goin' to Carolina in my mind
Gone, I'm gone, I'm gone
Say nice things about me 'cause I'm gone south now
Got to carry on without me, I'm gone
The Revue's "In My Arms" presents a story of a person who seems to be detached from the present and lost in their thoughts. The lyrics speak to the idea of seeking comfort in memories and a longing for a place that feels like home. At the start of the song, the singer declares that in their mind, they are "gone to Carolina" and sees the sunshine and feels the moonshine, emphasizing the nostalgia of a place filled with beauty and warmth. The line "ain't it just like a friend of mine to hit me from behind?" suggests that despite the singer's longing for home and the comfort of memories, life can be full of surprises and unexpected moments.
Moving on to the second verse, there's the mention of Karin, a silver sun, who the singer urges to watch her shine. We see a new aspect of memory or imagination, where the singer wishes to share and showcase the beauty that they see in their mind. The idea of a "silver tear appearing now" suggests that the memory is bittersweet, and they can't help but cry at the realisation that they are missing out on something.
The third verse speaks to the value of love, as the singer acknowledges that it's the finest thing around. The image of the sky on fire presents emotions that are intense and passionate, and the line, "I'm dying, ain't I?" shows how overwhelming the emotions can be. The chorus repeats once again, highlighting the singer's longing to be in Carolina or anywhere, but here.
