LaRue, whose background is heavily in the songwriting and performing worlds (“Us and Our Daughters”), and Salmon, who has spent 10 years behind the board mixing, producing, and writing, decided to have a little fun when they got together to record some music just for them.
“I have been wanting to make a rock/pop record for years but I haven't found the right partners to make it happen,” LaRue said. “That all changed for me once I met Allen. There was natural chemistry between us and we really complimented each other. After we wrote our first couple of songs together I knew I was all in.”
LaRue and Salmon have worked with such artists as The Undeserving, Elenowen, Landon Austin, Adam Agin, Eastern Block, Gileah Taylor, 10th Avenue North, Brandon Heath, This Beautiful Republic and Dave Barnes. Television viewers have heard their songs on popular shows Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill, Pretty Little Liars, American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, The Hills, Undercover Boss, Blue Bloods, and many others. With more than 30 years of experience in the music industry between them, their knowledge, talent and desire to create vibrant and stand-out pop music fused perfectly in their new collaboration as The Rival.
Open Road
The Rival Lyrics

This one thing I know:
As long as you're with me, that's all I really need.
The sunlight's breaking through, I know you see it too.
Don't you?
I see it in your eyes.
I see it in your eyes.
Wherever we go- it's an open road.
Wherever we go- it's an open road.
It's an open road.
You know it's your fault, I can't resist.
The second I fall into your kiss.
So lead me on, now.
So lead me on, now.
Our love is breaking through, I know you feel it too.
Don't you?
I see it in your eyes.
I see it in your eyes.
Wherever we go- it's an open road.
Wherever we go- it's an open road.
It's an open road.
Let us fall where we may,
Letting go of yesterday.
Just let go.
Wherever we go- it's an open road.
Wherever we go- it's an open road.
It's an open road.
It's an open road.
It's an open road.
It's an open road.
The Rival's song "Open Road" is about two people who are embarking on a journey together, not knowing where they will end up, but confident that as long as they have each other, they will be okay. The first verse sets the tone for the song, with the singer acknowledging that although they do not know where they are headed, being with their partner is enough to ease their worries. The chorus repeats the idea that no matter where they go, it's an open road, suggesting that they are open to whatever the journey might bring.
The second verse focuses more on the couple's relationship, with the singer confessing that they cannot resist their partner's kiss, and that their love is "breaking through." The final verse offers a sense of release, with the singer telling their partner to let go of the past and embrace the present journey. Throughout the song, the repeated line "I see it in your eyes" emphasizes the deep emotional connection between the two lovers.
