Veteran guitarist/singer/writer Roger Girke has been performing and recording steadily after hitting the nightclub circuit in 1975. By 1978 and at just 21 years old Roger scored a pivotal touring gig with Capitol/Ariola Recording Artists Pickins' who were legendary at the time for their funky fusion of blues, rock and country. Contacts made during that early success paved the way for a string of regional and national touring opportunities with diverse artists on Arista, Elektra and RCA records. At the conclusion of twenty years of playing over 200+over the road dates each year as a first-call guitarist, Roger was ready to focus on his own projects. In 1995 Roger relocated to Delaware and immediately immersed himself in the vibrant blues scene in Delaware and nearby Philly and Baltimore.
In 1999 formed Roger Girke and The Funkytwisters, now known as The Roger Girke Band and has released three critically acclaimed CD's,
Roger Girke and The Funkytwisters – “We Got The Funky Blues” Teletone Records 2001
The Roger Girke Band – “My Baby Loves That Stuff” Teletone Records 2004
The Roger Girke Band – “Shake It” Teletone Records 2008
The Roger Girke Band’s artistry and creativity has been validated with two significant industry awards. The 2004 CD release "My Baby Loves That Stuff" won an esteemed "Top 5 Self-Produced CD" award in the 2005 International Blues Challenge – and their 2008 CD release “Shake It” was awarded a “Top 6 Self-Produced CD” award in the 2009 International Blues Challenge. These awards are judged by industry heavyweights such as Alligator and Blind Pig records and terrestrial and satellite broadcasters, writers and publicists.
Also, from over 100 competitors, The Roger Girke Band was a top 10 live finalist in the 2009 International Blues Challenge, which takes place every year in Memphis, TN.
Roger and his talented band continue to evolve each year with a solid mix of
contemporary and traditional blues. The band's live performances feature strong original songs, combined with eclectic covers and energized performances anchored by Roger's strong vocals and guitar playing. Glenn Bickel, on keyboards and vocals, has been in the band since 2001 and is a veteran of dozens of Philadelphia blues and soul bands. He has been on every RGB CD release and hundreds of RGB performances over the years. Glenn’s son, the incredible Pat B on bass joined the band in 2005 and has established himself as one of the finest bassists on the scene today. Drummer David "Ernesto" Rainey also joined the band in 2005, bringing a wealth of jazz, funk and blues experience, driving the band with his steady, fluid and informed style.

September
The Roger Girke Band Lyrics

I played me a waiting game
If a maid refused me with tossing curls
I'd let the old Earth take a couple of whirls
While I plied her with tears in lieu of pearls
And as time came around she came my way
As time came around, she came
You court them in song and rhyme
They answer with words and a clover ring
But if you could examine the goods they bring
They have little to offer but the songs they sing
And the plentiful waste of time of day
A plentiful waste of time
Oh, it's a long, long while from May to December
But the days grow short when you reach September
When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
One hasn't got time for the waiting game
Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few
September, November
And these few precious days I'll spend with you
These precious days I'll spend with you
The lyrics to The Roger Girke Band's song September, depict an experience that many of us can relate to - that of young love and courtship. The song begins with the artist reminiscing about his younger days, when he would approach girls, only to be turned down. He would play a waiting game, biding his time until the girl of his dreams came around. He weaved this waiting game with sorrowful tears and hopes of better days.
As the song progresses, the artist talks about how he courted young girls in the spring, using songs and rhyming, but found that they had little to offer. However, the chorus "Oh, it's a long, long while from May to December, but the days grow short when you reach September" shows how he values the time spent with a loved one, as the year goes by. Autumn weather turns the leaves to flame, and the waiting game is not an option anymore.
The last verse "Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few, September, November. And these few precious days I'll spend with you, These precious days I'll spend with you" emphasizes how time is limited and how the artist values these few precious days that he will spend with the love of his life.
Overall, the lyrics of September conveys a message about the transience of time and the importance of cherishing the moments spent with someone special. It talks about a universal theme of how the moments spent with those we love are fleeting and how it is important to value and appreciate them.

When I was a young man courting the girls
In my younger years, I was chasing after women
I played me a waiting game
I would take my time and wait patiently
If a maid refused me with tossing curls
When rejected, I'd stay resilient
I'd let the old Earth take a couple of whirls
I would give it some time
While I plied her with tears in lieu of pearls
I would express my emotions freely
And as time came around she came my way
Eventually, the person I wanted came into my life
As time came around, she came
As time passed by, things started falling into place
When you meet with the young girls early in the Spring
When you're young and looking for love
You court them in song and rhyme
You woo them with words
They answer with words and a clover ring
They respond with affection and symbols of love
But if you could examine the goods they bring
If you take a closer look at what they offer
They have little to offer but the songs they sing
They don't have much to give, besides promises
And the plentiful waste of time of day
A lot of time wasted, without much progress
A plentiful waste of time
A lot of time, gone to waste
Oh, it's a long, long while from May to December
It takes a long time to find true love
But the days grow short when you reach September
Time flies, and soon it's autumn
When the autumn weather turns the leaves to flame
When leaves change color and fall to the ground
One hasn't got time for the waiting game
You can't waste time waiting anymore
Oh, the days dwindle down to a precious few
Days are limited, make them count
September, November
Late fall
And these few precious days I'll spend with you
I'll cherish the time we have together
These precious days I'll spend with you
These are the moments I treasure the most
