Search the Internet for info on The Rosenbergs and youll come across hundreds of articles summarizing a history of bold career moves, the most famous being their rejecting an offer to appear on the much-hyped (and now defunct) Farmclub television show. They then teamed up with Robert Fripps label, DGM, to pave the way for artists everywhere to start taking back ownership of their masters. A few months later, while the rest of the music industry was waging war against Napster, The Rosenbergs took another controversial step by teaming with the infamous file-sharing service for tour sponsorship and a "buy one, get one free" promotion for their sophomore release Mission: You. That one pissed off a retailer or two. Over the years, the plucky DIY New York-based band has endured management, label and lineup changes, and self-financed tours on both sides of the Atlantic.
All of which begs the question: How have The Rosenbergs managed to survive in an industry where its almost impossible to cash in without selling out? The answer can be found on their Force MP debut Department Store Girl, an invigorating album of irresistibly catchy guitar pop bright enough to part the clouds. Bursting with hummable hooks, terrific melodies and sharp wordplay, delivered by Fagins intoxicatingly tuneful voice, the album is everything youd expect from the band Entertainment Weekly once praised for its "infectious songs and head-bobbing choruses."

pulled down the yellow shade so everyone should know
baby open your eyes. you don't know what you're after.
baby open your heart i just wanna hear the laughter.
or the sounds of the way you grow.
i'll be waiting for you, i'll be soaked in polyester
you will melt from the touch of my physical attraction
hear the sounds of the way you grow
walk on the razor wire and i will climb around
beat all the bricks to mud and take it all downtown
baby open your mouth you just wanna keep protesting
baby open your heart you dont wanna keep me guessing
to the sounds of the way you grow.
chorus
i'll be coming for you i'll be soaked in polyester...
The song "Soaked in Polyester" by The Rosenbergs includes imagery of suicide and dark abandonment, yet manages to be surprisingly hopeful in its overall message. In the first verse, the singers describe a suicide pact and a sense of drifting, as if they are lost and aimless. However, there is an undertone of desire and longing throughout the lyrics. They want to hear laughter and witness growth, indicating that they yearn for something more fulfilling than what their current situation provides. The language becomes more romantic in the chorus, as the singer declares that they will be "soaked in polyester" when they come for their lover. Though the phrase seems like a contradiction, with polyester being a cheap and artificial fabric, it is clearly meant to be a symbol of the singer's readiness and dedication to their love. They are going to overcome the obstacles in their path, even if that means risking failure and getting dirty.
The final verse touches further on themes of risk-taking and defiance. The singer describes walking on razor wire and smashing bricks to pieces. They urge their lover to open their heart and stop protesting so that they can truly connect. Together, they will find a way to grow and thrive despite the turbulence surrounding them. Despite the serious subject matter, the song ends on an upbeat note, with the singer confidently stating that they will be coming for their lover. They will be there, no matter what.
