Never Be The Same
The Rubens Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There was no other way
I'd spent some time away
I'd never be the same
I finally was awake
Like water to my face
I'd finally found my place
I'd never be the same
It took something bad, to show me what I had
It took something sad, to remember who I am
I was forced to change
I'm not sure who to thank
Yeah I was such a waste
I'd never be the same
I'd never be the same
It took something bad, to show me what I had
It took something sad, to remember who I am
I found myself that day
There was no other way
I'd spent some time away
I'd never be the same
The Rubens's song "Never be the Same" is an introspective track about someone who faced a life-changing experience, which made them realize their true identity and rediscover their purpose in life. The opening lines "I found myself that day / There was no other way" suggest that the singer has had an epiphany, possibly after a period of reflection and introspection. The lines "It took something bad, to show me what I had / It took something sad, to remember who I am" convey the idea that a negative experience forced the singer to reevaluate their life and rediscover the things that truly matter to them.
The chorus, "I'd never be the same," is a declaration of the singer's newfound sense of self-awareness and their commitment to stay true to themselves, even if it means making significant changes in their life. This is reinforced by the lines "I finally was awake / Like water to my face / I'd finally found my place," which suggest that the singer has been sleepwalking through life until this point, but now they have finally found their calling.
Overall, "Never be the Same" is an inspiring and empowering track, urging listeners to embrace change and find their true purpose in life. The Rubens's emotive vocals and the song's driving rhythm and soaring guitar riffs help to amplify the message.

I used to listen to this song a lot when I was going through some really rough stuff (depression) and even once some of the things going on back then had passed the association would make me start crying my eyes out anytime I heard this song. After a while of listening to it enough it stopped making me cry every time, but I still got sad, so I never really thought I would be able to listen to it again. But I've recovered now, and while looking through some old pictures I found the title of this song again in a screenshot and just sort of stopped because I instantly knew what song it was. And I'm listening to it now, but instead of crying I'm smiling because I know that I'm truly over everything that went on all those years ago and I am truly happy with where I am today. It's a nice feeling :D
