Though Salsoul records had long been out of print, several were brought back in the mid-'90's. Many of the more recent 'house' music offerings owe more than a passing nod to the recordings of this orchestra.
Salsoul Rainbow
The Salsoul Orchestra Lyrics

Somewhere, over the rainbow
Way up high
There's a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby
Somewhere, over the rainbow
Skies are blue
Really do come true
Some day I'll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far behind me
Where laughter fells like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That's where you'll find me
Somewhere, over the rainbow
Blue bird fly, birds fly over the rainbow
Why, then, oh, why can't I?
The Salsoul Orchestra's song "Salsoul Rainbow" is a rendition of the classic tune "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from the movie "The Wizard of Oz". The song evokes a feeling of longing for a better place, a place where dreams come true and where the skies are always blue. It speaks of a place that is only found in dreams, but is nonetheless real and attainable.
The lyrics explore the idea of wishing upon a star to transport the singer to this place where the clouds are far behind and where laughter feels like lemon drops. It's a place where blue birds fly and where it seems anything is possible. However, despite the singer's deep desire to find this place, it remains out of reach, prompting the question "why, then, oh why can't I" find it?

Oh, what dance memories this tune brings back. I was just the right age when this came out in my early 20's. It was a more innocent time when there clubs for all tastes and persuasions. It was a glorious time in New York and was lucky to have been a part of it.

This was a magical time for dancing: 1970-1979. And this song was, for me, San Francisco in my mid 20s. It was a great time. Loved this song for its whole arrangement. Takes you places...
