3. - The SCABS - Social Critics Against Bullshit Systems
Tired of corrupt politicians, unconstitutional taxation, behind the scene corporate payoffs and society’s overall apathetic view of the American system of living, the Social Critics Against Bullshit Systems (The Scabs) reared their ugly heads for the first time in 1991.Playing local parties and garages until the mid-90's the band was almost disbanded due to member changes and personal conflicts, but in 1999 the band reemerged stronger then ever with a solid dedicated crew to push the band forward. Playing with such legends as The Dead Kennedys, Dee Dee Ramone, Marky Ramone, DRI, The Crowd, The Dickies, D.I., Angry Samoans, Narcoleptic Youth, RKL, Chaos UK and many more., help set the pace for the Social Critics Against Bullshit Systems, who are always ready to point the finger (usually the middle one) at controversial social figures and situations with their Drunk Rock point of view. The hard-core grinds and rhythms provided by creator and rhythm guitarist Andy Nelson and front man Johnny Armstrong, lead guitarist Brain Wash, bassist Greg and drummer Scott Rea, tear through your ears like the Southern California old school used to. Drunk Rock through and through. The bands Goal, to continue to break down the facade built by the system and help pass on the tradition to the next generation.

The Scabs Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
there's no "I'm sorries" 'cause there ain't no excuse
the things I've been doin', the things that I say
the road to ruin between you and me
my reasons for cheating, I don't know what to say
maybe it's nature, havin' its way
you know that I love you, but that's easy to say
I promised you sunshine, I promised you you'd be all mine
instead of the good times, a killer came and took your heart away
I gave you hard times, baby
I told the truth in lies
I was silly believing my lies could last
'cause sooner or later the rumour would spread
I often wonder how the things would be
if you hadn't found out the truth about that girl and me
can't promise you sunshine, can't promise you you'll be all mine
I'll try to be honest, unlike the first time it won't slip my mind
repeat chorus
I look out the window, I watch the street kids grow
life was so easy when I was that old
there were no lies and no things to be told
just lullabies and time to grow old
The Scabs' song "Hard Times" delves into the theme of relationship problems caused by infidelity. The singer is admitting to their partner that they have been unfaithful, and they have no excuse for their actions. They are willing to take responsibility for their mistakes and acknowledge the hurt they have caused. The song's repeated lyrics that the singer gave their partner hard times and told the truth in lies exemplify the relationship's troubles. The singer believes that their nature may be responsible for their cheating, but they still love their partner and want them to stay. However, they cannot promise a perfect future, but they promise to be honest about their feelings.
Furthermore, the song also explores the singer's reflections on their past when they were younger, comparing it to their current situation, resulting in the realization that they should have grown old and cherished their yesterdays with their partner instead. It seems as though the singer regrets not living a pure, honest life earlier in their youth and is now living with the consequences.

Nog steeds één van de beste Belgische songs (en dat wil wat zeggen). Meestal vind ik live-versies interessanter dan studio versies, maar hier niet. De onderkoelde strakheid van de studio versie is ongeëvenaard wat mij betreft!
