The Scarred is known for self-releasing their first album and for the relentless touring in the beginning of their career. As of January 2012, they have issued over ten releases, including four full length albums. In 2005, the band was signed by the legendary Punk Core records, which has often led people to falsely associate them with Street Punk. While The Scarred toured and played with many of the key bands of the Street Punk era, they have always described their sound as "Punkrocknroll," "Garage Punk," and their influences range from 1977 Punk Rock, to 60's soul, Delta Blues, Motown, R&B, and 50's rock and roll.
Continuing to stay independent, The Scarred most recently signed to Jailhouse Records, (A punk and indie label based out of Virginia) releasing their fourth–and most diverse–full length album, "Live Fast Die Poor."
The official description from their current press kit (reproduced here with permission) is as follows: After ten records, and twenty nationwide tours, The Scarred has become less of a band and more of an urban legend. The Scarred stands as one of Southern California's most battle hardened and best kept rock n' roll secrets. It's more than just music. It's alienation, isolation, and degradation. A distant crackled song blasted through the broken speaker of your radio. It's a cold lonely road accompanied by nothing more than a guitar and a notebook full of stories. The Scarred is the last of a dying breed, the last cigarette in the pack, the last drop in the bottle. It's rock, punk, blues, and soul wrapped into one. This isn't a message of hope, it's an out right battle cry to those who still believe in music. Bloody, beaten, and raw, song after song, their name rings truer than ever. They refuse to stop. They refuse to quit. The needle on your record player will throw in the towel long before this band does. This is The Scarred.
Down & Out
The Scarred Lyrics

you're eating out my heart again
experience is all a sham
I'm older but no wiser, man
"you'll get over it, you'll calm down"
Pounding drum, I love that sound
Round and round this same old town
No one here wants you around and
How am I supposed to know what to do?
Or how to feel?
Why are we always left out?
And who is keeping all us down?
Down and out
Down and out
Down and out
Down and out
Everything is hit or miss
It's not the time to take a piss
Cancer growing like a cyst
Someone get me out of this
Everything the same old song
well, I don't wanna sing along
I don't want to hear you say
"Everything is still the same"
How am I supposed to know what to do?
Or how to feel?
Why are we always left out?
And who is keeping all us down?
Down and out
Down and out
Down and out
Down and out
The Scarred's song "Down & Out" presents a bleak outlook on life - an individual who feels like a "rotting corpse" with no identity or purpose. It seems like he is dealing with heartbreak or loss, which he tries to block out with the pounding sound of the drums. He can't shake the feeling of being left out by society, and the lyrics convey a sense of frustration and hopelessness. The line "cancer growing like a cyst" could be interpreted as a metaphor for the toxic environment he's living in, both emotionally and physically.
The chorus of "Down & Out" repeats the idea of being "down and out," emphasizing the individual's feeling of being stuck and unable to escape his situation. It's a cry for help, for someone to "get me out of this." The individual is questioning why they are left out and who is keeping them down, highlighting the feeling of being a victim of circumstance.
Overall, "Down & Out" is a powerful and emotional song that captures the feeling of being trapped in a desperate situation. The Scarred's lyrics hit hard with their raw honesty and capture the frustration and hopelessness of feeling like an outsider.
