Speak Your Mind
The September When Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I hear this is new now what has come to your mind
One game is over and now comes another
Couldn't you run away with her like you wanted to
Or was there something that she would not do to you
Oh little yeah little I care
You're getting nowhere
You must let them hear you
Ship in the morning with the golden light sleeping
On the water top
Dreams get better and better as the prices go up
Couldn't you get her up to a rendezvous
Or couldn't you get her first of two
Oh little oh little I care
You're getting nowhere
You must let them hear you
Speak your mind
Do you believe in Kingdom Come
Take the risk of leaving home
There's nothing to be afraid of
Even if you're alone
Leave it to the hand of fate
Leave it to the hand of fate
There's one thing I can assure you
You won't regret it
There's nothing to be afraid of
There's nothing to be afraid of
The September When's "Speak Your Mind" is a song about taking action and standing up for oneself. The lyrics address a person who has been holding themselves back and asks them to be honest about their feelings and desires. The opening line, "When did you begin to steal," can be interpreted as questioning when this person started taking what they want rather than accepting what is given to them. The next line, "I hear this is new now what has come to your mind," suggests that this change in behavior is recent and perhaps unexpected.
The chorus, "You must let them hear you / Speak your mind," encourages this person to speak up and express themselves. The verses describe specific scenarios where the person could have taken action but didn't, such as running away with someone they wanted to be with or setting up a rendezvous. The lines "Do you believe in Kingdom Come / Take the risk of leaving home" are a call to adventure, urging the person to step out of their comfort zone and pursue their dreams.
