(1) The Sequence was an all-female old school hip hop/funk trio signed to the Sugar Hill label in the early 1980s. The group consisted of Cheryl (Cheryl The Pearl) Cook, Gwendolyn (Blondie) Chisolm, and lead singer/rapper Angie Stone, who subsequently became a member of Vertical Hold and later a solo artist.
(2) The Sequence consists of Travis Van Hoff (vocals), Jason Yata (Guitar), Brandon Dennis (Drums), and Kevin (Bass). According to a review by absolutepunk.net they say, "...I find it remarkable that a band that has been around as short a time as this band can sound as refined and seasoned as they do. Their music evokes such a feeling of summer with straight-up pop-punk songs..."
Their first full length album called "Simplify" was released July 19, 2007 originally with a different singer. Currently The Sequence is gearing up for the release of their new EP, titled "In Lights." A sample track from the new EP can be heard on the band's myspace page. All In
The Sequence Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A little something that you're after
It's starting to show
The word faithful isn't mine
And I lie for cruel intentions
You know, you'll never let go
So let me go
Learn to hide your nerves now
Knowing half the battles all pretend
Are you all in, all in?
So won't you look now
Falling faster, straight down
This moments sure to trap you in the end
Are you all in, all in?
Or are you out?
Every ending has it's dream
And every kiss can last a lifetime
So girl, come show me what's real
You're all over me tonight
Lets the alcohol decide
If I, can find peace and swallow pride
And let you go
Go play your game
We won't go down without a fight
You're still the same
So I'll sing it again
The lyrics of “All In” by The Sequence tell the story of someone who is uncertain about their relationship with another person. They have been looking for a sign that shows that the other person is committed to the relationship, but they haven't found anything yet. They are unsure if the other person is faithful to them and they worry that they have cruel intentions towards them. However, they can't let go of the other person despite their doubts. The singer of the song is asking the other person whether they are “all in” or not, meaning whether they are fully committed to the relationship or not. The singer also acknowledges that they have their own flaws and insecurities, and they might be doing things to sabotage the relationship as well.
The second verse of the song is more optimistic in tone. The singer encourages the other person to open up and show them what's real. They seem to have a moment of connection with the other person, fueled by alcohol, but they are still haunted by their doubts and insecurities. The chorus repeats the question “are you all in?”, as if the singer is trying to convince themselves to have faith in the relationship.
Overall, “All In” is a song about the uncertainty and insecurity that can come with romantic relationships. The lyrics are heartfelt and honest, and the music is catchy and upbeat. The Sequence manages to create a sense of tension and release, reflecting the emotional ups and downs of the narrative.
