The Shed released their first EP "What are you Listening to Lately?" in September 2007 and followed up with a self-titled debut album in December of that year. Since then they've garnered quite a following in their hometown and beyond and were voted Cork's Best New Band of 2007 in a joint Red FM/Evening Echo poll.
In June 2010 The Shed launched their second album, a collection of 13 tracks entitled 'Goldfish Love', which saw the band move in new musical directions. As the album title would suggest a somewhat skewed perspective is emitted through the fish-eyed lens of this intrepid six-piece. Over the course of 60 minutes the band traverses many musical pathways and the diverse subject matter includes a road trip that ends in alien abduction [The Cliffs], an homage to the inventor of the lava lamp [Craven Walker], the guilty pleasures of homemade jam [Rory's Homemade Jam], the serenity of eternal love [Goldfish Love], subconscious immolation [Wildfire], social networking satire [Friends on MySpace], an urban mystic [The Weatherman] and the ages of man [7 Songs]. Add to this a dash of The Shed's array of musical styles from dreamy pop to indie punch, acoustic folk to a healthy dose of cosmic wig outs; put it in a bowl and stir it up and you've got an aural fruit cocktail ripe for tasting.

Goodnight, Silas find
Ah
There's mirrors in the lake
Every time a wave crash I see my face
I can buy it a-Any hour of the day
II nod but I still stay awake
I I can tell you're bluffing
You can't keep a straight face
I can’t tell you how it ends up (Ends up)
Why can't I repeat the message? (yeah)
I I think these theories are too extensive
(Ah) find
II'm fed up
I got theories but I find
Them in the dark pla
Shadows on the wall and I
Cover them with new paint
Nodding off when I think about my old ways
Write it down
I think I filled the whole page
There's mirrors in the lake
Every time a wave crash I see my face
There's a creature in the cave
Ah i just had to find the way
I've been getting stressed so I
Put another in my face
I should get the Shed on my face
Somethin' that you do to me
And make me feel crazy
I should be scared but the
(Shh) tastes like candy it's Shed
Life in a bottle life in a
Life in a fish tank
Theories getting stolen, I can’t do any (Ah)
Wha What point are you trying to prove?
I’m in this bitch like I'm Guy Fieri
II’m-I'm in the walls like I'm Harry Potter
I'm in Atlantis ’cause I'm underwater
She has my eyes but she's not my daughter, ah
I'm getting water, kissing cups
I made this water from the jump
I'm eating plastic like a fish
Dirty water on my dish if I end up like
I'mma end up like
I'mma end up awake
Feel like Harry underneath the s staircase
Is this the only way?
That there was a solution that I found
Banned from the place where the flowers grow

The lyrics to The Shed's song "The Shed" delve into themes of self-reflection, inner struggles, and a sense of disorientation. The opening lines, "Proxy ah, Goodnight, Silas find, Ah," set a cryptic and enigmatic tone, suggesting a departure from reality and a search for something elusive.
The recurring imagery of mirrors in the lake reflects a constant self-examination and the idea of confronting one's own reflection. The waves crashing symbolize the turmoil and chaos within, with the singer constantly seeing their own face, perhaps implying a sense of identity crisis or inner conflict. The line "I can buy it any hour of the day" could allude to seeking validation or reassurance externally, yet finding it unfulfilling or transient.
The mention of a creature in the cave and the inability to sleep despite nodding off suggest a lurking fear or unease that keeps the singer awake at night. The skepticism towards deception, "I can tell you're bluffing, you can't keep a straight face," hints at a struggle with trust and sincerity in relationships. The refrain questioning why the message can't be repeated and feeling overwhelmed by extensive theories conveys a sense of confusion and frustration in trying to make sense of the world.
The latter part of the lyrics portray a sense of detachment and escapism, with references to putting on a facade ("Cover them with new paint") and seeking temporary relief through escapism or indulgence ("Put another in my face, I should get the Shed on my face"). The mention of theories being stolen and the inability to prove a point suggest a loss of intellectual clarity or a struggle to assert one's beliefs in a world of uncertainty and doubt. The references to drowning, being underwater, and the chaotic imagery towards the end of the song evoke a feeling of being overwhelmed by external pressures and inner demons, culminating in a sense of alienation and disconnection from reality.
Overall, "The Shed" by The Shed conveys a complex narrative of introspection, disillusionment, and a search for meaning amidst chaos and uncertainty. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of inner turmoil, defiance against deception, and a yearning for clarity and resolution in a world that seems increasingly inscrutable.
