One More Day
The Sheltons Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

He was sittin' at the bar, sippin' on a regular Coke
We were drinkin' and smokin' and makin' him the butt of our jokes
We all said, "Man, what happened to you? Why can't you just have a few?"
He said, "I would if I could, but it's probably best that I don't."

'Cause the more I drink, the more I drink
Yeah, I'm the world's greatest lover and a dancin' machine
I get loud, I get proud, and it gets worse
Well, if I have one, I'll have thirteen
Naw, there ain't no in-between
'Cause the more I drink, the more I drink

A couple of cold ones, and somebody hands me a shot
Hell, even buck-tooth and bow-legged women start lookin' hot
And pretty soon I'm bummin' cigarettes, and sweet talkin' some big brunette
Yeah, once I get on a roll, ain't no tellin' where I'll stop

'Cause the more I drink, the more I drink
Yeah, I'm the world's greatest lover and a dancin' machine
I get loud, I get proud, and it gets worse
Well, if I have one, I'll have thirteen
Naw, there ain't no in-between
'Cause the more I drink, the more I drink

Yep, yep
Hmm, that's what I'm talking about

Man, if I have one, I'll have thirteen
And they can't get me off the karaoke machine

The more I drink, the more I drink
Yeah, the more I drink, the more I drink, the more I drink

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Sheltons' song "One More Day" depict a character who struggles with alcohol consumption and the consequences it brings. The singer is sitting at a bar, being teased by his friends about his inability to drink in moderation. He explains that he would like to have just a few drinks, but it's best for him not to because he knows it will only lead to more trouble.

As the song progresses, it becomes evident that the singer's behavior escalates as he consumes more alcohol. He boasts about being the "world's greatest lover" and a "dancing machine," indicating that his confidence and extroversion increase with each drink. The lyrics suggest that the singer becomes increasingly loud and proud as he continues drinking. He humorously remarks that if he has just one drink, he ends up having thirteen, emphasizing his lack of self-control and the absence of a middle ground for him when it comes to alcohol consumption.

Overall, the song serves as a cautionary tale about the negative effects of excessive drinking and the need for self-control. It highlights the singer's awareness of his own limitations and the destructive path that he wants to avoid by refraining from drinking.

For all of you and your loss.
This song is beautiful, but will
Always break my heart, we all
Have one thing in common, we will

IF YOU REALLY MISS A LOVED ONE AND CAME HERE RAISE YOUR HAND

Last night I had a crazy dream
A wish was granted just for me
It could be for anything
I didn't ask for money
Or a mansion in Malibu
I simply wished for one more day with you
One more day, one more time
One more sunset, maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again, I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still for one more day with you
One more day
First thing I'd do is pray for time to crawl
I'd unplug the telephone and keep the TV off
I'd hold you every second
Say a million I love you's
That's what I'd do with one more day with you
One more day, one more time
One more sunset maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still for one more day with you
One more day, one more time
One more sunset maybe I'd be satisfied
But then again I know what it would do
Leave me wishing still for one more day
Leave me wishing still for one more day
Leave me wishing still for one more day with you
One more day (one more day)

On Friday my friend Amelia had a woodworking class with me in 7th grade…she looked at me in 7th period and asked sheepishly if I could do her homework as her family had a get together that Sunday and did not want a Zero-I happily accepted as I liked her secretly…during the weekend I helped her project and placed all plans in her little notebook she gave me on Sunday. I was excited to gain some “points” with her. On Monday she was not in class (had her in 3rd period also) there was an announcement in 4th period to please give a moment of silence for a student who who drowned in lake . My friend had died -Amelia. I clutched her homework tightly and began to cry. Students around me was like what is wrong? I am 56 years old and stil have her homework. I miss my friend today and sad she was taken away so soon. Today I am traumatized by water and drowning. Thanks for reading as this song gives me remembrance to such a beautiful person…
