Half Life
The Shifts Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Thought I was the nicest guy I knew
I thought I knew who I was
Then again so did you
And the years fly by
Like a dream I couldnt grasp
I get so caught up in it all
How did half my life go by
You said the opportunity was
Always there for me
Gone in the blink of an eye
This time you won't be here
Once upon a time
I waited patiently in line
I had no spine
The cage of innocence was mine
Those bars are gone
Maybe I've lost something inside
Maybe it's something i cant hide
But I won't be taken for a ride
Tell me it's not too late
The lyrics of The Shifts's song "Half Life" seem to be reflecting on the passing of time and the realization that half of one's life has gone by. The first stanza describes a time when the singer thought they knew themselves well and believed they were a good person. However, as time goes on, they become more aware of their own limitations and uncertainties. The years "fly by," implying a sense of quickness and fleetingness. The line "I get so caught up in it all" suggests that the singer has been consumed by the responsibilities and challenges of life, perhaps losing sight of what truly matters.
In the chorus, the lyrics express a feeling of regret and missed opportunities. The singer is told that the opportunity for something meaningful was always present, but they failed to seize it, and now it feels like it's gone forever. The phrase "gone in the blink of an eye" emphasizes the swiftness with which time can pass. The line "This time you won't be here" adds a sense of longing or sadness, perhaps referring to a person who was once a significant part of the singer's life but is no longer present.
The second stanza shifts the perspective slightly. The singer reflects on a time when they were submissive and lacked assertiveness, using the metaphor of a "cage of innocence." However, they declare that those barriers are now gone, suggesting a sense of growth and independence. There is a recognition that maybe something has been lost along the way, something that they can't hide, but they refuse to be taken advantage of or deceived anymore. The last line, "Tell me it's not too late," expresses a plea for reassurance that there is still time to make things right or find what has been lost.
Overall, the lyrics of "Half Life" delve into themes of self-discovery, the passage of time, missed opportunities, and the desire for redemption or a second chance.

Well death dont count about how long your training are or how brutal is your training is because once you get hit its all over and also because of protagonist plot armor. If the creator decided that you as the protagonist would not die early when fighting the enemies no matter how op and strong the enemies is you will not die even if you just a normal civillian because the game would end early. Its all because of protagonist special power
