1. "The Showdown" is a crushing five-piece band from Elizabethton, Tenn. who have crafted an epic heavy metal sound for listeners who enjoy their music relentlessly. The Showdown's style shifts effortlessly from Southern rock to European death and everything in between. Lyrically, their writing tells of heroism, sojourns and battles of life; melodically, their crushing rhythm and articulate guitar play takes the listener on a roller-coaster ride of emotion. The result is a brutal and honest anthem for the youth of today, with a strong Christian message, in the form of A Chorus of Obliteration, the groups debut album.

The lyrics of this song are highly influenced by the story of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Bible, where God destroyed these cities with fire and sulfur because of the wickedness of their inhabitants. The lyrics start with a plea to God to spare the righteous among the wicked, making reference to a biblical conversation between Abraham and God where Abraham asks God to spare the city if fifty righteous people were found in it, then forty-five, forty, and so on. I think it was back in '04, saw these guys in a little venue in East Tennessee. They opened with this song, the vocalist was standing up ontop of the speakers head banging with a skull raised up in his hand. It was a very metal moment. Later I lost my shoe in the pit, during Deus Invictus I think, he picked it up like the skull and did the same before giving it back to me. These guys were rad back then.
