The group has released three original studio albums: First and Last and Always (1985), Floodland (1987), and Vision Thing (1990). Each album was recorded by a different line-up; singer-songwriter Andrew Eldritch and the drum machine called Doktor Avalanche are the only points of continuity throughout. Eldritch and Avalanche were also involved in The Sisterhood, a side-project connected with Eldritch's dispute with former members.
The Sisters of Mercy ceased recording activity in the early 1990s, when they went on strike against East West Records, whom they accused of incompetence and withholding royalties, and had pressured the group to release at least two more studio albums; instead, the label released the album Go Figure under the moniker SSV in 1997. Although the Sisters of Mercy were eventually released from their contract with East West, they have never been signed to another label nor released any new material, despite showcasing numerous new songs in their live sets.
Former members of the group established the bands Ghost Dance and The Mission.

Will I Dream
The Sisters of Mercy Lyrics

I can feel it
On the howling edge of pink and white and blue
Something, right here
I can feel it
And now it's just too real to
Still believe in you
When it's over will I dream?
When it's over will I?
When it's happened will I?
When it's over will I dream?
Something is happening here
I can feel it
On the howling edge of pink and white and baby -
Will I ...dream?
When it's over will I dream?
When it's over will I?
When it's happened will I?
When it's over will I dream?
Something has happened here
I can feel it
On the howling edge of pink and white and steely blue
Something, right here
I can feel it
And now it's just too real
To will belief in you
And will I ...dream?
When it's over will I dream?
When it's over will I?
When it's happened will I?
When it's over will I dream?
The Sisters of Mercy's song "Will I Dream" has an enigmatic and hypnotic nature that leaves room for subjective interpretation. However, the recurring themes of questioning reality, disillusionment, and unfulfilled dreams provide some insight into the meaning of the lyrics.
The opening lines, "Something will happen here, I can feel it on the howling edge of pink and white and blue" indicates an impending change, a sense of something about to happen, but the singer doesn't know what it is. It could be interpreted as a sense of unease or anxiety, a premonition of something going awry. The following line, "And now it's just too real to still believe in you" implies that perhaps the singer's disillusionment contributed to the sense of impending doom.
The chorus poses the question "Will I dream?" which could be interpreted in two ways. One interpretation could be that the singer is questioning whether they will be able to dream despite the harsh reality they are experiencing. The other interpretation is more literal, in which the singer questions if they will only dream once the ordeal is over, suggesting that they are not living in reality right now.
As the song progresses, the line "Something, right here, I can feel it" is repeated, which reinforces the original notion of something about to happen, but now with an added sense of urgency. The final lines, "And now it's just too real to will belief in you" encapsulates the sense of disillusionment and betrayal that permeates the song.
Overall, "Will I Dream" is a haunting and thought-provoking song that leaves the listener questioning reality and the fragile nature of our perceptions.
