With a drastic change from the hardcore scene, the Sleeping is now considered to be post-hardcore/Rock/Alternative, and has played with bands such as Fightstar, Halifax, Silverstein, Bayside, Stretch Armstrong, Spitalfield and Haste the Day.
On August 6, 2008 the band announced that after 6 months of auditioning for a new pianist/guitarist to replace Cameron Keym, they had recruited Paul Cadena (Guitar) and Christopher Evans (Keyboards/Synths), the newest members of The Sleeping.
The band proceeded to tour across the East Coast and Midwest US with Envy On The Coast and Secret Lives of the Freemasons.
On February 17, 2009, new album What It Takes was released.
Get You Back
The Sleeping Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
So now, I gotta get back where you're from.
I gotta get back where you're from.
Shaken soul, fallen thrown, vulnerable.
So now I gotta back where you're from.
I want to get you back but I don't know how.
I was lost, cut and bound, losing ground,
So now I gotta get back where you're from.
That's why I gotta get back when you're down.
I don't want another; I'm over "grin and bear."
I don't want another, I gotta keep you around.
The lyrics to The Sleeping's song "Get You Back" seem to be about a person seeing their loved one in a dark, lonely place and wanting to be there to support them. The opening line describes the loved one as "sitting there cold, all alone, depressive tones", indicating that they are struggling emotionally. The lyrics continue with the singer saying they need to "get back where you're from", implying that the loved one is from a happier, more comfortable place and the singer wants to help them return to that state.
The feelings of vulnerability are also described in the lines "shaken soul, fallen thrown, vulnerable" which further serves to highlight the loved one's emotional state. The repetition of the line "I gotta get back where you're from" emphasizes the urgency and importance of helping the loved one. The chorus contains the line "I want to get you back but I don't know how", indicating that the singer is struggling to figure out how to help their loved one.
The second verse reveals the singer's own struggles, referring to themselves as "lost, cut and bound, losing ground", but now they've "sewn, flesh and bone, missing and home" which may mean they have overcome their own difficulties and are now able to help their loved one. Lastly, the song closes with the line "I don't want another, I gotta keep you around" which suggests that the singer doesn't want to lose their loved one and is willing to do whatever it takes to support them.
