1. The Snow is a cinematic literary-pop quartet from Brooklyn, New York. It began when Pierre de Gaillande and Hilary Downes collaborated on made-to-order songs written as wedding gifts and birthday presents. The songs evolved into a project, which eventually led to an invitation to a midsummer tour of Russia, Sweden and Finland with musician friends who needed an opening act.
The Snow's influences are as diverse as its sound – having been described in turns as post-apocalyptic French cabaret, gypsy pop, and carnival Americana. The band is comprised of de Gaillande (Bad Reputation, Melomane, Morning Glories) on vocals, guitar and banjo; Downes on vocals and keys; Jeffrey Schaeffer on drums and Christian Bongers (Falcon, Hurricane Bells) on electric and upright bass.
The band's gorgeous debut, True Dirt was recorded and mixed at Trout Studios by acclaimed producer Bryce Goggin (Pavement, Apples in Stereo, Sean Lennon, Evan Dando, Sebadoh) and was released on Vermillion Music in the spring of 2008. Their follow-up, I Die Every Night, was released in early 2010, recorded by Shannon Ferguson at Serious Business Studios in New York. Additional tracking was done with Daniel Weintraub in New York.
The Snow returns for a third outing, Disaster is Your Mistress, its most complex and lushly orchestrated album to date. Veteran engineer Charles ‘Chicky’ Reeves (Radiohead, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Tito Puente) navigates haunting classical flourishes, Motown horns and Beatlesque pop soundscapes to take the listener on an unexpected sonic journey. Think of Serge Gainsbourg hitching a ride with Carole King and Fiona Apple in a boat atop rolling rapids of champagne.
3. The Snow is a melodic, alt-space rock outfit from Los Angeles that formed in a quick beautiful instance in the Spring of 2006 when Aaron Smart, Billy Mohler, Garry Ventura, and Jason Johnson went to record a few songs at Stagg St. Studios.
Garry and Aaron had been working on a few songs when they realized they needed a guitarist and bassist to take it to the next level. Aaron called upon long time friend Jason Johnson (Pete Yorn, Paloalto) to play guitar. Then needing a bass player they ran into Billy Mohler (Jimmy Chamberlain Complex) at a studio in North Hollywood. They told billy about the project and he expressed interest. They got together to work out the songs, and the magic was there. The first two Titles "October" and "trading Post", recorded in less than 2 days, were enough for them to know that something special was happening. A dynamic, tight, yet melodic rhythm section, a soaring spaced out sonic display of guitars, and a quiet to wailing vocal assembly.
Once The Snow had developed a full albums worth of songs they enlisted production team Heroes and Villains to record it with them. They entered Ocean Way Studios Hollywood in the spring of 2007. They kept it realistic, as they say, and recorded the old way; straight to 2" inch tape, live, with no click track. Recording live as a real band they captured real emotions at that moment and an intensity now lost in the stale digital recording realm. With the new assembled album The Snow began to book shows around Los Angeles in October, 2007 and have yet to look back. After less than 5 shows they signed with the independent Los Angeles label, Northern Lights. With an amazing self titled record in tow, and a new label poised to promote it, The Snow have began to book regional shows to get the music out. Phil Buckman (iMPOSTERS, One Side Zero) has recently been recruited to play bass for the group as The Snow spreads across the U.S.

No job mother fucker I quit to chase a dream
Ain't got no girl
No girlfriend I was in love with her she wasn't in love with me
Ain't got no job no job
Just spent my last dollars oh god
Ain't got no girl no girl
She ain't give me a minute I would have gave her the world
She's in love with me
Oh wait I got one more pedal on the flower
She loves me not
Play with my heart like it was a toy then be done with me
She turn up missing with that other boy I swear it wasn't me
It wasn't me
The reason I'm unemployed is cause I seen my manager
Told him we got to speak yo
Nine hours a day I got no time to chase my dreams bro
A recording artist what I'm gonna be
But it's been a month or two since I even wrote a bar
Working at this rate I'm bout to go broke and starve
One day I'm a drop a hit that makes the billboard see glowing stars
Chances are the song will be about my broken heart as usual
Told them we gon make it out
The doc would say my confidence delusional
If you see me on a walk and I'm homeless
Drop some change into my bowl
Ain't even have it so I drove right through the toll
I ain't got no job
No job mother fucker I quit to chase a dream
Ain't got no girl
No girlfriend I was in love with her she wasn't in love with me
Ain't got no job no job
Just spent my last dollars oh god
Ain't got no girl no girl
She ain't give me a minute I would have gave her the world
Hold up wait yo
How could I have gave her the world when I ain't even got a job
Can't do it taking twenty's from my mom sorry mom
I'll pay you back when I'm on top and it's soon cause every song I drop a bop
My lawyer said this song could be a lawsuit
It bump so hard it could make your grandma break a hip
I was up all night writing bars and making beats
Missed a call at eight am from my boss he was like
You're late for shift
Other day I only had an hour but I took a break for three
Was thinking it's about time I quit the job to chase a dream
But now to write it downs the only way to make a g
Been sleeping on the floor can't even afford the pillow
Bout to run up on a farm with a pair of clippers and a garbage bag and shave a sheep
Had the same sweats on for three weeks straight
If you see me with a sign and I'm homeless it'll say f u c k
Your spare change
Just go fucking buy my cd tape
My heart is not broke I glued it back together I'm okay
The first verse of the song represents the singer's frustration with their current circumstances. They have no job, no girlfriend, and no money. They had quit their job in pursuit of their dreams, but now they are struggling financially and emotionally. The singer reflects on how they were in love with someone who didn't love them back, and how they feel used and discarded. The lyrics convey a sense of disappointment and betrayal.
In the second verse, the singer explains the reason behind their unemployment. They had approached their manager to discuss their passion for music and their desire to become a recording artist. However, they feel trapped in their current job with no time to pursue their dreams. They express their belief that one day they will create a hit song that will bring them success, even if it's influenced by their broken heart. The lyrics show their determination to make it in the music industry against the odds.
The third verse delves deeper into the singer's financial struggles. They mention being homeless and driving through tolls without the money to pay. They emphasize the lack of money and a job, alluding to taking twenty-dollar bills from their mother and promising to pay her back once they achieve success. They highlight their belief in their own talent, stating that their songs are potential lawsuits due to their quality. The lyrics express both desperation and optimism, as the singer believes their music will ultimately bring them success.
The final verse reveals the singer's perseverance despite their challenging circumstances. They describe their dedication to their music, staying up all night writing songs and producing beats. They prioritize their art over their job and are willing to take risks to chase their dreams. The lyrics convey their resilience and determination to make it in the music industry. The last line suggests that the singer has overcome heartbreak and is now in a better mental state, indicating personal growth and healing.
