The Soldiers, Sergeant Major Gary Chilton, Sergeant Richie Maddocks and Lance Corporal Ryan Idzi are serving British soldiers who have released their debut album ‘Coming Home’ in October 2009. Along with the single, part of the albums proceeds will go directly to military charities including Help For Heroes, the British Legion and the Army Benevolent Fund. See www.the-soldiers.co.uk
Although serving as soldiers is their day job, music has always been an integral part of the male vocal group’s lives and these real life heroes are set to take the album chart by storm this Autumn.
Youngest and most recognisable member, 24 year old Lance Corporal Ryan Idzi appeared on X Factor and made it through to the Boot Camp stage of the show after singing Lean On Me. From Caerphilly, South Wales, Idzi has already served in Iraq and Afganistan as part of the 20th Armoured Brigade. Described by Danni Minogue as ‘gorgeous’, Ryan’s good looks are sure to melt the hearts of millions.
Gulf War veteran Sergeant Major Gary Chilton joined the Royal Armoured Corps in 1984 straight from school and has performed around the world including a special show with Jools Holland at Twickenham. Gary fought in the Gulf War and presented with The Gulf Medal by HRH The Prince of Wales upon return.
Sergeant Richie Maddocks from Oldham, Greater Manchester enlisted into the British Army at the age of 16 and has travelled throughout Europe, Canada, Cyprus, Finland and The Falkland Islands. Maddocks also fought in The Gulf War and awarded The Gulf Medal.
The album is being produced by Nick Patrick who has worked with Russell Watson, Katherine Jenkins, and helped sell over 40 million albums and collectively win 7 Classical Brit awards. Patrick comments “Having worked with some of the UK’s biggest classical recording artists, Gary, Ritchie and Ryan’s voices are some of the most genuine and heartfelt voices I’ve heard in a long time. We’re having a great time in the studio recording their material.”
The lead track 'Coming Home' is an original song that was released on the 5th October as a digital download with proceeds going to the Army Benevolent Fund.

Just let you leave without a trace?
When I stand here taking every breath with you, ooh ooh
You′re the only one who really knew me at all
How can you just walk away from me
When all I can do is watch you leave?
'Cause we′ve shared the laughter and the pain
You're the only one who really knew me at all
So take a look at me now
Well there's just an empty space
And there′s nothing left here to remind me
Just the memory of your face
Ooh, take a look at me now
Well there′s just an empty space
And you coming back to me is against the odds
And that's what I′ve got to face
I wish I could just make you turn around
Turn around and see me cry
There's so much I need to say to you
So many reasons why
You′re the only one who really knew me at all
So take a look at me now
Well there's just an empty space
And there′s nothing left here to remind me
Just the memory of your face
Now take a look at me now
'Cause that's just an empty space
But to wait for you is all I can do
And that′s what I′ve got to face
Take a good look at me now
'Cause I′ll still be standing here
And you coming back to me is against all odds
It's the chance I′ve got to take
Take a look at me now
The lyrics of The Soldier's song "Against All Odds" convey a heartfelt plea from someone who is struggling to come to terms with a painful breakup. The singer is unable to understand how their partner could just walk away without a trace, leaving them behind with a deep sense of loss. The two of them had shared both joyful and sorrowful moments, creating a deep connection and understanding between them. Now, faced with an empty space, the singer is left only with the memories of their partner's face and the longing for their return. Despite the odds, the singer remains hopeful and steadfast, still standing and waiting for their partner to come back, even though it may seem unlikely.
Overall, these lyrics express the raw emotions one experiences when a significant relationship comes to an end. It reflects the profound impact the relationship had on the singer's life, and their struggle to move forward without the other person. The song portrays the internal battle of wanting their partner to see their pain and realize what they have lost, while also acknowledging the reality that they may never return. It is a poignant exploration of heartbreak, longing, and the resilience to face the odds and keep hope alive.

All I'm capable of doing is observing your departure
'Cause we've shared the laughter and the pain
Because we've experienced both joy and suffering together
And even shared the tears
And even shed tears together
So take a look at me now
Now, examine my current state
Well there's just an empty space
There is only emptiness remaining

There is no longer anything here to trigger my memories
Just the memory of your face
Only the recollection of your visage
Ooh, take a look at me now
Oh, observe me at this moment

So many reasons why
Numerous justifications exist
Now take a look at me now
Now, examine me at this moment
'Cause that's just an empty space
Because there is only emptiness remaining
But to wait for you is all I can do
However, waiting for your return is the only option I have
And that's what I've got to face
And that is the reality I must confront
Take a good look at me now
Carefully observe my current state
'Cause I'll still be standing here
Because I will continue to be present in this place
And you coming back to me is against all odds
The likelihood of you returning to me is incredibly low
It's the chance I've got to take
However, it's the risk I must undertake
Take a look at me now
Observe me at this moment
