My sister passed away in September of last year. This was her favorite song. She struggled with addiction most of her life. We played this loud for her at her funeral. I understand your reasoning to stop cold turkey. But it's a process and u can overcome it u just have to take one day at a time.. I've lost my 1st cousin due to addiction but we are brothers. Any drug or alcohol addiction is rough for anyone. Just pray for the strength to stop and use all support that u have from any family or friends tht may understand your situation! You can do it!! I haven’t yet but I know I can. I know I am loved and everyone can live a better life once we get sober and see the blessings it will bring. I started and next thing I know 20 years have gone by….. I was 15 and experimenting but that 20 years seems like 20 minutes. I want to remember every second of the next 20 and I pray to God 20 after that. There is literally no excuse to become a drug addict or alcoholic and people are tired of hearing the sob stories/excuses of weak minded individuals who succumb to addiction. I wonder how many lives you ruined because of your inability to cope with reality? A f-in addict destroys their own family and friends,everyone suffers because of one selfish person. I battled opioid addiction in my late teens and early 20s. It almost took my life many times over. I vividly remember times of desperation, using in a dark room alone, and this song randomly coming on the radio. It always made me stop and think, "maybe i should try and get some help." I eventually got the help i needed and have been in recovery for almost 14 years from opioid use disorder. I'm now a clinician and substance use disorder counselor working in the field of addiction recovery, nearly finished with my masters degree and onto med school to become a psychiatrist. Every single day i get to live the dream of helping people repair their lives from the same thing that almost took mine and has taken the lives of so many of my loved ones. It's so surreal to have come full circle. To anyone out there wondering if recovery is possible, it absolutely is! I'm living proof, and so are many many others. It won't be easy. In fact, It'll be the single most difficult thing you'll ever do in your life. But i can say that without a doubt it's worth it. If you want to break the maddening cycle of active addiction, please reach out for help. There are people who care, even if you don't know them yet, they're there, i promise. And if you're not ready to stop using yet, please use a free resource to be safe, like neverusealone. You can call and have a person stay on the line with you while you use, and they will call paramedics if you become unresponsive. Overdose deaths are 110% preventable. I do opiates a couple times a month, at most. GREAT buzz, but I was fortunate enough to hear that it's very addictive BEFORE using recreationally (in the early-90s), so it's never been a problem. I wish more people knew ahead of time that regular use is a very bad idea. A quick Google search would do the trick.

I’m so sorry I’m going through this with my daughter I’ve helped her get clean twice the third time I didn’t help it exhaust’s you to see your child like this you know everything I don’t have to tell you she lasted 3 days in rehab after she got clean a week I think and she left this year and started taking heroin so they’ve put her back on methadone she’s 32 now she’s been taking stuff since she was 16 I thought I’d notice I lived with her but they don’t just lay there like I thought it’s the pupils it took me time you know the rest hun and what they do 😢god bless you both I hope he makes it ❤🙏

I love this song. It reminds me of my mom, who struggled with addiction and mental health problems for most of her adult life. It was very tough growing up. Many times my brothers and I were taken away by the state, always to return to the same cycle of abuse and horror. So many children go through this today. Maybe someday real help will be out there. I was a heroin addict for over a decade. I lost my son. When I finally got clean my Dad told me this song always broke his heart, it made him think of me. It still makes me cry to hear it.
Now I’m coming up on 8 years clean. I have a family and a little farm and it’s everything I ever wanted and never believed would happen.

Yesterday I was at a baby shower for a friend, it was a happy normal party. On my drive home, I felt the tug of this song . . . "she never mentions the word addiction in certain company". Both of my sons struggle with addiction. My son's best friend, who I loved deeply, died at 23 from an overdose. This disease is affects the whole family. Seeing comments from recovering addicts is so beautiful.

My mom lost her battle with alcoholism this last year (22) so hard to watch her go down but i will never blame her for not being able to beat it because i have battled addiction too and know how hard it is. This song will always remind me of her and my struggles as well. Rip mom.

The hurt, the fear. She enters detox,rehab tomorrow morning. But the hurt she feels as she packed tonight. She never second guessed anything. As we held each other she apologized. She said that we are worth it. I've been clean for almost 15 years but felt helpless. Never give up on the ones you truly love.

My interpretation of this song is about the suffering of many people in many different ways. I pulled this song up because I felt over emotional about so much in life out there affecting me and others in a very bad way. Angels are real. This is such an amazing song ...I feel this song so deeply and understanding the meaning is so personal to me that I feel as if it were written for me. I relate to it on so many different levels .. I want it to be played at my funeral not to be depressing but to be understood by the people that loved me .. we all go through things private and some not so private by some people who think they know you . The only things in life that I can relate to are the angels that I have spoken with In My life . Yet, that one isn't about addiction.
I always interpreted it to be about that. I was wrong.
Scott wrote that song about his first wife.
It's beautiful no matter what it's about.
And I think it's up to people to make their own interpretation of songs. What feelings they get when they listen to a song should be absolutely fine. I don't believe artists write songs to mean just one thing to everyone who listen to their music.
